Anybody here other than me collect hollowpoints?
This thread is really worthless without pics, but I do have about 50 boxes of misc stuff that I've found over the years. Most of it is of the newer variety, but I do have some classic 15 (app) year old Win 147 gr. JSP and a box of the older 9mm black talons....but they arn't Black Talons, they are the "Law Enforcement Only" variety.

The ammo or the bullets?

I save loaded ammo. The bullets themselves don't do me much good as I don't reload.

It's not something I've done yet, but coincidentally something I've been interested in doing, whether the ammo or the bullet. Is there a certain way you store them?

Cool, dark and dry.

Cool, dark and dry.
You don't label them?
But not just HPs....pretty much any old/rare/weird defensive or military pistol ammo is something I try to have at least one example of.
If you really get into it, you can be paying $5-50 per cartridge pretty easily. Every now and then if you scour the 'net, gunshows, or trade with another collector you can get some way cool stuff.

I collect almost any facory singles in 9mm, 38Spl, & 357Mag. I also try to put together complete sets of Silvertips, Hydra-Shoks (old and new), Golden Sabers, Super-Vel, etc.
The only boxes that I collect is when I get a full box and when I'm done shooting up 44 rounds out of a box, I'll keep 6 rounds from the box. One goes into my plastic MTM Caseguard boxes (separated by calibers and manufacturers) and the remaining 5 will stay in the box for providence so I know what round came from what box.
Like [b]Mwinter[/i], I also try and find the odd-ball stuff that was put out in the 80's & 90's as ultimate SD rounds (Thunderzap, MMI, Onslaught, Omni-Shock, PPS, etc.).
Always fun stuff to try and find and to collect.
Gol'dern you Merkava....my pocketbook and brain hate you now.
OK let's get this over with: what's an Onslaught, and where can I find one?
I'm too poor to collect guns, so ammo it is!

I don't collect antique bullets or rounds but I do save at least a mag's worth of all ammo that shoots well through my pistols.

Onslaught ammo was produced back in the early 1980's. Primary calibers produced was .38Spl. and .357Mag. with other revolver callibers planned.
The .38Spl. is loaded with 7 waxed, lead waffer discs weighing about 19 grs. each that are stacked one atop another like poker chips. Total payload is approx. 133 grs.
The .357Mag. was loaded with 9 lead waffer discs at 19 grs. each for an approx. payload of 171 grs.
They were packaged in MTM Caseguard plastic 12-round wallets. The .38 had a blue paper label and the .357 had a red paper label.
(From SWAT magazine, Aug/1984.)
I found my two boxes (one in each caliber) at a small local gun show in No. Calif. No body knew what they had and I was able to buy it for a few bucks each.

Why not stash a box of 20 or 50 away in it's original packaging? That's what I do and I don't open them either. They may be worth something that way. A few loose rounds don't make sense to me. Loose ammo seems to tarnish also, especially if you handle it. I have a few boxes of ammo from companies that don't exist anymore and other boxes of ammo that has been discontinued from current ammo manufacturers.

Can you post pics, please? I'm piqued to know what they look like. Also, what would the purpose be of this design?

My examples are buried away in ammo cans in storage, so I'll not be able to get to them for photos. I may have a photo of one of the Onslaught packets. I'll check and if I do I'll contact you for your email and I'll send it to you.
Purpose of Onslaught? Putting as many holes on target as possible with one shot. IIRC, the testing that was done with this ammo showed that at distances over 7 yards the lead waffers will wander all over the place and can easily miss a man sized target. Obviously Onslaught wasn't very well thought out and became one of the many failed Special Purpose SD ammo.

That would be great. They do sound like good cqb/indoors ammo. Would it be like shotgun spatter in the COM?

You know those Super Vel's in the box will be a very coveted collector's item if kept in those conditions. How do those Scorpions mushroom?
