Hi All,
New to your forum here, I have just purchased a Glock 36 for CCW, which defensive load do you guys recommend? The gun shop suggested Speer Gold Dot Short barrel Ammunition. Any help would be appreciated.

Try several different loads and use whatever shoots best in it.Different guns like different loads.

Speer Gold Dots, Winchester Rangers, and Federal HSTs are all good choices. Try out a couple or all three and see which one works for you.
I like the Cor-bon DPX 165 gr for compact .45's & the GD is also good advice from your shop too.

That sounds like a good recommendation to me. :)

I'm using Speer GD 200gr +P, 230gr & Federal HST with very 100% reliability and accuracy. The +P's are not nearly as hard to handle as I thought too.

i would try a box each of the federal HST 230 grain, standard pressure and +p. you should get very good expansion and penetration with both loads, even in the short barrel g36

I can't tell the difference between +p and standard pressure Federal HST 230gr. .45s out of my USPc .45 (recoil wise).

Thanks guys,
I got a box of the Gold Dot, and I found at my local Cabelas a box of Winchester 230gr SXT. Going out to try them soon, thanks again.

I carry GD in my MP45 FS and will carry GD SB when my MP45c comes in.
I am sure your buddies can let you try a few rnds to try in your gun. This
should help you get the right rnd for your gun. Both of mine are 230 HP

I agree...
Try several different ammunitions. Pick what you and your weapon likes the most.

Guys,
Tried 2 different types so far in my 36, the Winchesters didnt group all to well, but my 36 seemed to like the Gold Dots pretty good. I was shooting at about 15 yards and got real good results with the Speer load. Thanks for your inputs.

The most reliable feeding 45 ACP JHP's I've found are Remington Golden Sabers. I like the 230 grain standard pressure ones. The 185 grain ones also have a good feeding shape but it's difficult to find them in standard pressure. The +P ones give up so much velocity in the short G36 that they aren't faster than standard pressure ones but have much more muzzle blast and flash. I really like 230 grain Golden Sabers.

IMO, those are the best choice in .45acp.
They have a feed friendly profile as you mentioned, and the brass jacket has wicked sharp petals when expanded.
The street results are great, the gel numbers are good, and with the limited wetpack testing I've done, they've performed very well.
