I am considering purchasing my first AK, but have a couple questions. First, I have narrowed it down to the one listed in the link below:

The one listed below comes with the standard shoulder stock/furniture. My first question is, are ALL AK's able to swap stocks for an underfolding stock? I will eventually put one on the AK i get becase I like the look and function of it. My second question is does the heavy duty (1.6mm) reciever rival the standard milled reciever as far as accuracy, durability, etc...?
Thank you for any helpful responses in advance.

Stamped receiver AK's have the most variety of folders available. Check out KVar.com for options direct for the Soviets.
Do some reading regarding underfolder usage at ar15.com before you make that switch. The CDI (chicks dig it) factor is high but the functionality is not. Not if you like to properly keep your sights aligned that is. Just my opinion on that, surely there will be differing ones.
Different matter altogether if you go with a sidefolder. The solid Soviet/Bulgarian types are pretty darn solid. So is the ACE variety. Just some food for thought.
Regarding your question about 1.6mm receivers. I personally think they are more stable and slightly more rigid leading to increased accuracy. Some will tell you that accuracy and AK's are antonyms but that is BS imo. I have a Krebs currently and have previously had Arsenal products that would shoot round for round with an off the rack AR all day long (4 moa range for US Army standards). Where the AK falls short is when the action moves beyond 200 meters. Rainbow trajectory allows the AR to dominate at ranges beyond the 200-300 meter envelope.
Just one mans opinion, but I have shot AK's EXTENSIVELY for the past 15 years or so. As for "best" quality, best advice I can give you is you will know a good one when you pick it up. Particularly when you have handled several that are not so good. With that being said, ALL of them are dependable as the day is long, will function pretty much full of crap/mud/dirt/whatever (okay, I am exaggerating some :) ) and are GREAT 200 meter and in bullet flingers.
Hope this helps. Happy Blasting.
While adding an underfolder is possible it is not at all easy. You need to have the sides of the receiver cut-out and the underfolding trunnion riveted on. Then the receiver will probably need to be refinished. If you want an underfolder then buy an underfolder IMO.
Adding a sidefolder is a different story. You can pull the stock stock (no pun intended) and replace it with a sidefolder very easily.
ACE side folder is the way to go!
I think you need to be aware of the Fed's requirements...
If I am not mistaken, it is U.S. Code : Title 18 : Section 922 that restricts modifications such as what you describe.
ACE side folder is the way to go!
agreed. underfolders are not comfortable at all for me.

Underfolders are going to be worth MUCH MORE than others should there be a new ban. With the recent SC ruling it looks like we are in the clear.
But don't let your guard down!
Just buy an underfolder already installed and save yourself the time and headaches!!!!!

I guess Im the odd guy out here. I have 5 or 6 AKs....from pistol, standard stock, side folder and under folders.
I prefer the under folders......and honestly I find the side folder pretty comfortable to (wire side folder at that).
If you want an under folder but it that way....its a hassle to swap out the rear trunnion and screw around with the receiver.
