Any fellow Glockers buy one yet? Until Glock or HK makes a light pocket gun, this seems like the best bet. I saw the Kahr P380 is coming out, but I paid $299 for the Ruger and they said they could order me the Kahr but it would be $609!! I don't think it will be $300 dollars better. I haven't shot my little Ruger yet, but it seems like a nicer made KelTec .380. Rides well in my front shorts pocket in a Desantis Nemesis holster.

I'm sorry

I have one and it is on the third trip to Ruger for repair.

Sorry to hear that Solid. Mine is working great. Absolutely no problems. Over 300 rounds and the only problem is that I'm out of .380 for now. I love the way it handles, accuracy is fine, trigger is long but consistant.

It does what it's designed for...up close and personal 7 shot delivery system to center mass.

And best of all...it disappears in any pocket! IMHO...it's a KEEPER!

At least they did a better job when they shamelessly copycatted kel-tec than s&w did when they tried their hand at a "glock." I'm waiting for someone to actually INVENT some competition for the P3AT instead of just making a new grip for it.

It's on my list. I going to wait a while. I have a 1st. gen. Kel-Tec that the frame pin backs out on, but I really like the size.

Love my LCP. Had nothing but problems with my P32 kel-Tec but this thing has not had one malfunction yet.

Me. Me.

I find the Kel-Tec to be reliable and accurate at SD range and have carried it (a 2nd gen) for 3 years. My son has the LCP (He just likes rugers). About the only difference between them is price and finish. Thing is, anybody ever see mine, the only thing they will see is the muzzle blast, so why spend the bucks for hidden good finish.

BTW neither is a range gun. You will find you will carry it a lot and shoot it a little and never use what sights are in them.

I just shot my new LCP this AM. I shot 2 boxes of Fed.Hydrashoks, a box of Speer Gold Dot, a box of Win.Ranger (issued duty backup gun ammo, police SXT's), and about 50 mixed FMJ's. It was 100% reliable! No problems of any kind. I could not be happier with it. I'm glad I didn't save up for the new Kahr P380 (I was quoted $609 to order one). I b ought the little Ruger pocket gun for $299. I used to have a KelTec P32 when they first came out and it jammed with FMJ's fairly often. Glad I didn't have that problem again. I work with another officer that owns 2 KelTec 380's. He and his wife each carry, always. He likes them and says his are reliable. I have seen other officers come in to qualify with their new out of the box KelTec 380's though and they jam occasionaly with hollowpoints and had a tough time passing the course. So overall, I definitely like it. I know some other guys have had problems with theirs so I was wary. Maybe Ruger has worked out the bugs. I just bought mine 2 days ago and the shop just got it in.

Mine is totally reliable.... 350rds so far....

So far, based on guns coming through the range, I'm sticking with the 2nd-generation Kel Tec as being more proven and reliable (despite the fact that operator-induced "limp fingering" of the uber-lightweight Kel Tec does cause some operators cycling problems).

Ruger's LCP is more cosmetically appealing, and may yet get my recommendation, but Ruger needs to work the bugs out and get QA up to snuff, so that fewer bad guns come through the supply chain.

If you want the LCP, and want to be more sure that you get a good one, I'd wait another 6 months.

Solid, sorry to here about your problems. I've got a couple hundred rds thru mine & no problems. You may have a Monday morning LCP. I hope 3 times is the charm. When you get it right it will be a keeper. The only thing is have you lost confidense in it to carry. I think I would.

I've never understood how anyone could consider a firearm "reliable" with only 300 rounds through it.

That's tantamount to taking a car for a test drive around the block, and then believing it's been wrung out and tested.

"Hasn't failed yet" with minimal observation isn't the same thing as "reliable."

Keeping the two concepts well separated is a valuable practice when your life depends upon the distinction.

Sorry, but your logic is flawed. Any firearm, irregardless of make and manufacture will fail sooner or later. You simply have too many variables involved (i.e. shooter, ammunition, magazines, and the weapon itself). It is not if, but when you weapon will malfunction. If you haven't had a weapons failure then you simply haven't shot enough. To say that you have to fire a weapon several hundred times to call it reliable is not sound logic. One could fire a weapon 12,000 rounds and on round 12,001 have a FTF. Is this weapon unreliable?

I would agree that one "should" fire a few hundred rounds in order to test functionality, but to say several hundred isn't going to tell you much more that the first couple hundred won't tell you.

I've tried to avoid LCP threads because I didn't want my whole post history to be bashing a single gun, but my LCP has been nothing but problematic and unreliable to say the least. The list of malfunctions has occurred with every brand of ammo tried (American Eagle, Magtech, Remington UMC, WWB, Federal Hydra Shok). The malfunctions have varied from failure to feed, extract and eject. I get significant smiley faces and bullet setback and the spent cases are usually torn up. Wear to the inside of the gun is downright atrocious. After waiting for over a month, I received a new barrel in hopes of it helping solve the problem. It shows very poor craftsmanship to say the least and looks like Ray Charles took a dremel to it. Customer service has been tough to get in touch with and several times has not had any information in their system about me.

I am at a loss as to what to do with it at this point. I can't in good conscience sell it to anyone and am not sure that I want to as I really want this to work out. My faith in Ruger being able to make it right is slim to none however.

My thoughts too. I don't want this gun anymore, but throwing it away would cost me $289 + tax. No one is going to want a LCP that has been to the factory 3 times. At least not for anything more than "free".

Any chance Ruger would let me "give" it to them? Maybe get a refund/credit?

Solid,
I fancy myself an aspiring gunsmith, if you would be interested in selling it cheap, I would love to have a go at it, and see if I can figure out a fix for the issues?

nope. Tried that with taurus when my PT-22 blew up in my face. Its been 12 weeks now and i still dont have it back. They still dont know what caused it to malfunction, so i tried to get a new one out of them or money. No go on either. Biggest piece of crap in the world ( the company and the gun)

I certainly wont sell it to anyone else though, id feel bad. My SKS is gonna get to know it very well though. Its gonna look real nice hanging from a string 100 yards out:supergrin:

I also had an LCP and sold it. Way too many FTFs and the pistol was chewing itself up. I decided to go with a Kahr PM9 instead and so for I have been happy with the decision.

I bought one a couple weeks ago. I doubt I'll put many rounds through it, but for me it makes a good grab-n-go gun. I'd rather have something than nothing. My G19 is still my trusted carry gun, the LCP is sitting in the safe.

There's the Seecamp LWS-380 and the even newer Rohrbaugh R-380 which should be shipping any day now. I don't know if you would consider them competition as the price is higher but so is the value of these quality stainless steel pocket pistols.

Sorry to hear that yours is not up to snuff. I guess some are good out of the box and some are not. Mine has been perfect at 400+ rounds now and at $259 was a very good deal. I hope Ruger can fix it for you. Like you, I couldn't sell a malfunctioning gun to anyone but would after Ruger made it right.

Wife wanted an LCP. I said not until you get a CCW permit. She said OK. I got her the LCP. We both loved it! Enough that I just picked up one for me. No problems what-so-ever. Reliable, accurate and Ruger duribility. What more could I ask for?

I've had one ordered since I first heard Ruger was making them. I heard about the problems they were having with the barrels, and figured they would have it worked out, hopefully before mine came in.

Mine came in a few days ago. Looking at it I see an 'R' stamped on the barrel at the chamber right where '.380 auto' is printed. Would this be a 'replacement' barrel?

Out of the box, I fired two magazines, mixed Gold Dots and WWB. I had one fail to feed. I took it home, cleaned it, and polished the feed ramp with a Dremel tool. I"m going to the range soon to put some more rounds through 'Elsie.'
