Please give your opinions of both and why one would be a better choice than the other.
i own several 1911 and a HK tac (similar)
think of the HK as a modern 1911.
Nothing beats the crisp trigger of a 1911, but the match trigger on the HK is good.
For carry, i would pick the 1911 (easier to conceal)
for everything else i would go with the HK.
If possible buy both.
The HK is bigger and thicker, holds more rounds, accurate and reliable.
mags are expensive.
1911
a true classic, thinner,accurate, great trigger,lower capacity.

Go with the HK. Of course, I'm VERY biased.

There is an easy test to decide on what gun to get: Here's how it works...
You take each category and score it some are worth negative points: The highest score wins...
Weight: (Subtract the Ounces)
Capacity on a standard mag: (Add the Round Count)
Caliber: (9mm or below -10 points; 40 S&W/10mm 0 points; .44 or above +10 points)
Barrel length: (Add inches)
Bad Ass Factor: How cool will you look...scale 1-10 then multiplied by 10 and add.
SO lets start:
-----------------------------------------------------------
HK Expert
Weight: 30 ounces (-30)
Capacity: 12 rounds (+12)
Barrel Length: 5.2 inches (+5)
Caliber: Assuming you a man then a .45 (+10)
BAF: 8 (8x10=80)
Total: 77 points
1911
Weight: 40 ounces (-40)
Capacity: 7 rounds (+7)
Barrel length: 5 inches (+5)
Caliber: .45 (+10)
BAF: 10 (10x10=100)
Total: 82 Points
Mathematically speaking, the 1911 is superior...

I picked up an HK45 about six months ago and now I'm looking at 1911s. What broke it for me is the trigger which H&K claims is a match trigger. Compared to a generic USP it's a huge step up. That being said it's next to worst in the price range with the standard USP being worst.
If you can deal with a very bad trigger then it's a great gun in all other regards.
If you're only intention is to be shooting at paper and cardboard then the 1911 is a fun nostalgic item with some interesting history. Much similar to the guys who shoot cowboy action shooting.
Otherwise I'd probably stick with the H&K.
I'm a 1911 guy, so naturally that's what I'd go with. That said, HK makes great stuff, and strictly from a quality standpoint, is probably better than most of the 1911s in its price range.
However, its far from an apples to apples comparison.

I owned one a couple of years ago. It had a very nice trigger....probably the best of any DA semi-auto I've owned but I found I shot about as well with it as I did with my Glock 34 or Colt Combat Target 1911. Traded it away for a shorty AR15 and kept the Glock and Colt.
