View Full Version : Want to try a scout scope.

I've left my guns alone for far too long now, and am getting the itch to play around with new options. One of the things i've meant to do for a while is pop a scout scope on my wife's M38 to see how we like it.
Neither of us is sure if we'll like it or not, so we want to start with something fairly inexpensive, but that will still stand up to the fairly heavy recoil.
We're thinking something in the 2-2.5x range.
So, what suggestions for starter scout scopes in the <$100 and $100-$200 range?

I'd spend more than that or stick with irons.
Others will be here shortly to disagree...I just don't like the idea of cheap optics.

Like I said, we want to try it out. IF we like it, we will get higher quality glass. IF we don't, spending several hundred for a failed experiment is stupid.

Just fyi scopes in that price range can and will break easily.

Use a Handgun Scope.
I was going to say the same thing. The Leupold M8 can be had for around $250 or so.

Try these:

http://www.opticsplanet.net/leupold-25x28mm-m8-ier-scout-rifle-scope.html
I was in the same line of thinking for my Yugo SKS. However, These cost more than the rifle. Then there is the $50 Scout Scope mount.
Though the idea of learning to acquire a target, and shoot with both eyes open still intrigues me...

No sense at all in buying cheap glass. You will not like it with a POS scope.
Burris and Leupold make very nice IER scopes for around 300.00.
I run a Leupold M8 IER 2x on my Remington 700, and love it.
Try this one, it's been good to me....very good.
