View Full Version : Walther PPS 9mm vs 40 cal
I've heard lots of great reviews of the PPS 9mm on the forums, but nothing about the 40 cal version. Has anybody tried the 40 in this pistol yet, how bad is the recoil? I am seriously thinking about trading my Glock 26 for one or the other of these.

the 9mm pps intrigues me, but i've read about way too many malfunctions with this pistol, especially given it's limited availability. i still haven't even seen one in any of the shops in vegas
i'll end up getting one eventually, but i'm going to wait a couple years for them to get the kinks worked out
Very good question. I've been getting interested in the P99c but have been having trouble deciding between 9 and 40. Not to highjack your threat, but I'm eager to see responses.

I bought the 9mm PPS. I have already put over 700 rounds through it with no problems.
I decided that the 9mm was fine for what I wanted it for. There are many different choices in ammo for the 9mm. Some are close pretty close to the .40 S&W. With the lower cost of the 9mm, I can afford to practice more.
I have never really gotten into the caliber war. Get what ever you can shoot better, and are more comfortable with.
Well, I did a bit of research and got me a 9mm; it is the single stack 9 that we wish Glock had made.

... and then form your own opinion.
I;ll get one when/if they put the A.S. trigger on it.
Are the dots painted flat on the sights, or an insert of some sort? I like that they are big three dots anyways.
I'm not sure that the .40's are even out yet....could be wrong. I went ahead and got the 9mm mostly because it was available. As said, there are some bad assed 9mm rounds available these days and your capacity is one more than with the .40.
My PPS has been flawless. Accurate and easy to conceal. It also fits nicely into holsters designed for the baby Glocks.

I have had a 9mm P99c A/S since 2005. I even hard chromed the slide. I really like it a lot. I have held the PPS, and the grip is straight, and almost too thin - I prfer the grip of the P99c.
As for the 9 vs 40. Whil ethe fullsize P99 is my all time fav gun - I will admit that it has a bit more recoil than other 9mms. And, the P99c has move recoil than say, a Glock 26.
I have shot the fullsize P99 in 40 - and I didn't like it at all. A lot of recoil.
And, I have seen a LOT of people over the years who bought the P99c in 40 cal put it up for sale soon after the purchase. I'd get the P99c in 9mm if I were you - not the 40.

Actually, the 9mm PPSs have not had many problems at all unless they were first editions. I'd stay away from those. I have read some problems with the 40S&Ws already. I wanted the 9mm anyways. I feel just fine with doubletap 9mm and given the limited capacity, I wanted the extra round.
I warn you spare mags are pricey right now. I bought the 8rd mag and it ran me $46. :wow:

I have to admit, when the gun mags first started writing about them, I really wanted one. ( *If I hit the lottery tomorrow, I might still get one ;) ).
That said, now that Ruger is comming out with their less expensive "suprises", I think I'm gonna wait a little while to see what they have on the horizon before I buy "more expensive".

I finally got to shoot a 9mm PPS a few weekends ago and was blown away at how little recoil it had. I was always very surprised at how nice the trigger felt. If I was going to buy a pocket gun, it wouldn't be a Keltec or LCP, it would be a PPS.
