OK...I know this question has probably been asked and the (multiple) answers are buried deep in the bowels of this forum...but I am too lazy to look for them.

So, what are your opionions on the DPX and the HST defensive round. It will be carried in my daily G27 rig as well as be kept in my bedside beauty...G23.

Your comments are appreciated.

I don't know much about DPX, but I know HST is hard to beat, deep penetration and really nice penetration through various mediums. Only knock on HST is it isn't as good as a few other rounds through barriers such as windshields.

Btw, this is a caliber corner topic, not really a general glocking topic.

I would rather have 180 Gold Dot's but both DXP & HST are so good the person you shoot with them won't know the difference...

How is the recoil with the 140g DPX ?

DPX is too expensive for me to consider for a carry load, so my vote goes to HST because I can't see DPX being better enough to warrant the extra cost.

Hmmmm? I just typed this in another post by the same title:

OK, I hope I don't start something here but this is my opinion.

I LOVE the DPX and it is my absolute first choice for my 23 and 27.

That said, I usually fill the G23 with 180 grn HST and keep it in the night stand. The HST is a super expander and I can shoot it very well. Inside the house I want the expansion and not so much the barrier penetration.

I carry the G27 a lot while in the car and there I would prefer the DPX for its superior barrier work. If you ever had to shoot thru auto glass, the DPX has a better chance of hitting your POA. Most non bonded bullets change their track to varying degrees when the hit auto glass. Especially an angled windshield.

So, in the carry weapon, if in or around cars a lot, I would go with DPX and, if you cannot afford DPX another bonded round like a Gold Dot.

For the in-home Glock, the HST is a great choice.

All that said, most any modern SD round will be fine in most situations as long as you can put the round in the right place.

So I guess this was all a waste of typing...... Oh well.

DPX wouldn't feed very well in my G36, actually one lot did and another lot didn't.

DPX is a bit pricey to do a lot of testing for reliability.

I would happily carry either of them if they were reliable in my gun.

To me one advantage with the HST is you can buy it in boxes of 50. The idea of loading the HST for the house and the DPX for the street is an interesting idea. The Barnes bullet should be a good one for barrier penetration. In my 40's I like to carry a magazine of 180 grain Speer TMJ's if I need more penetration than a hollow point. Of course the TMJ's in a 40 would not be a very good choice for the house.

This has always interested me. Isn't it strange how a particular round will feed flawlessly in one gun but not in another of the exact model?

My G30 has actually NEVER failed to feed anything other than a few Wolf FMJs which I will never use again. I have a friend with a G30 exactly like mine and his has trouble with Factory Speer GDs but not with Double Taps.

Another mystery of Glockdom.

Its every gun, ask the 1911 guys about how certain ammo feeds. I'm sure you will get someone on here that is very well versed in this phenomena explain feeding profiles, chambers, etc., but truth is, there are many variables, not all ammo, or lots of ammo and guns (even two identical model guns) are created equal.

I'm very sure you're right but, I don't really care as long as my own pistols feed.

The only one I have had feed issues with is my Colt 1911. Got to where I felt uneasy depending on it.

I have 7 Glocks and have been lucky that not one has manifested a feeding issue. At least with the ammo I have tried. My Sig P230 has not jammed or failed to feed in over 10 years. Love that little guy.

DPX for my Kel-Tec P3AT (.380ACP), but Winchester Ranger Talons otherwise/other-calibers, for me.

I would love the Ranger T's but availibility seems to be an issue. It doesn't seem that I can order them online (internet store) or buy them locally...only on an auction site like gunbroker.

Is this the case...or is there somewhere on the internet I can get them?

ammunitiontogo.com carries ranger T's, but they don't have them in every flavor all the time. If you are patient, you will find exactly the caliber and grain you want though, just may take some time.

I am a regular shopper at ATG, but he does not carry the "T" series ("T" for "Talon") Rangers, just the Bonded or "B" series Rangers, at least in the caliber I buy (.45ACP). I know, I've got 1000 rounds of them. ;)

Thats not true, they had regular Talons before, I even think they had the +Ps at one time, but its been a while, I'm sure they will have them again.

IIRC, there are several members here who sell Ranger T.

As for DPX vs. HST.....
I'd take the HSY simply because I've had too many negative issues w/ corbon ammo.
Whether or not they've got it all figured out I don't know.
HST appears to perfom very well in tests but there isn't enough street data for me to feel comfortable with it just yet.

I cannot speak to what ATG may have carried at one time. The question was of the present and my statement was in this context ("he does not carry..."). I hope you are correct and he does carry them, by your testimony, again. I like doing business with ATG and would send them some more of my money. ;)

However, what I said was "true", when understood in the proper context. They do not "currently" carry them. I apologize for not making that clearer.

I have switched to DPX, in my Glock 27 smith 38 642 and my kel tec 380, heres why, it cuts the recoil in my g27 to that of a 9mm, very accurate, and does the same for my 380 and my 38, granted its expensive but whats a box or 2 of carry ammo, good stuff in my Glock 40 it really excells, i assume my new found accuracy comes from its low recoil, but im not going to question this DPX, i have not shot a better bullet ,for me , in 35 yrs..imho
