Hey, I ordered 100 rounds of the Double Tap 230gr Wide Flat Nose Gas Check ammo and when it got here it turns out to be lead. Now I have been told time and time again NOT to ever shoot lead rounds through my G20. I thought I was ordering jacketed rounds, but it seems I didn't. This is definitely an error on my part.
Anyhow, I am curious, should I send them back (that is my intention at this time) or is it safe to use them? I got the heavy load for pig hunting with my brother in-law here in California.
Okay, thanks for your time.:faint:

The gas check helps prevent lead fouling. I'd shoot 'em. Chore Boys and elbow grease will clean out any fouling.

Can't really answer your question better than Rugby already has. Many people on GT have claimed shooting lead(nonjacketed) bullets in their glocks with no adverse effects. The thing with Glocks is the polygonal rifling in their barrels tends to want to collect lead. I would say definately inspect the barrel after a few rounds to make sure everything looks "ok". And, probably clean the barrel after the first one or two mags of ammo have been run through it, paying attention to any lead coming out on patches or whatever. But, at a rated velocity of 1120fps (from a G20) leading shouldn't be "too much" of an issue, especially since the bullets contain the Gas Check. Just keep a close eye on things at first.
Lastly, please let us know, in caliber corner, how they performed on the pigs when you get that far!

The cast bullet that Double Tap loads is a hard cast and should be fine in a Glock. I tested out some 200 grain Beartooth loads several months ago in my Glock 29 with out any problems. I would give them a good testing before taking them hog hunting.

I'd strongly suggest you chronograph any of DT's ammo. I've been a huge fan of it over the last few years as it's been reliable (never jammed) and it's accurate. However, since I started playing with chrono, I've found their advertised velocities are overly optimistic.
I used to swear by their 10mm 200gr. xtp as being an awesome all around hunting and defensive load when I thought it was leaving the gun at 1250fps as advertised on the box. Numerous chrono sessions in different weather, sun conditions, and elevations all have shown speeds averaging around 1106fps. This is nothing near the advertised 1250fps. I have since switched to Buffalo Bore who's actual velocities are significantly closer to their published velocities.
My advice is not to rely on the numbers on the box.

Ditto all the above...
Cast gas checked bullets pose no problem for your Glock...
Enjoy!

I have NO idea of the BHN, (or hardness), that Mike uses in his ammo. Asumming, it is at least 19-21, it will not lead your barrel.
If it helps ya. I reload. I reload 200 gr. cast lead at a BHN of 21, in my G20 10mm @ about 1250/1300fps. I shoot real small groups at 50 yds, and not bad at all at 100yds, and even when we play on the ranch at the really Loooong range stuff, it shoots very, very well.
This is all with the "Factory barrel." I simply brush it out with a copper brush a few swabs, and a few passes with the cleaning rag, and it is good enough to carry for SD, If i was so inclined.
I have never had one single problem.
So, if you cannot trade them back to him, (which i would try and do), and explain you thought you were getting something else, then, at least shoot them, and do not even give it a thought.
There are better barrels for this, in the after market style, (which I am working on getting to tighten up the groups even better yet), but the stock barrel, as it is, will shoot these loads fine out of my G20 at least, even at 100yd deer. At 50yds, it's fantastic.
Glock will freak out on ya if you tell them you did this, and void your warranty. But it ain't a goin to hurt your barrel. Again, if his BHN is hard enough, it shouldn't even foul the barrel with lead. So trade back, or shoot them without reservation/s.
Stay safe.

I am going to try a min-experiment in about three months. I will shoot four exotic does with two loads in my G20 10mm: two with the 200 grain WFNGC and two with either Winchester Silvertips or Double Taps 180 grain Speer Gold Dot JHPs. I would expect a less immediate reaction from the cast lead gas checks than from the JHPs, if they expand as they should. The deer are axis, fallow, sika and black buck. Your information on care and feeding of the Glock 20 with cast bullets is appreciated.

A gun barrel is a gun barrel whether its in a Glock or a Smith & Wesson. As long as you clean the barrel well after each range visit I don't see a problem with lead buildup. I think Glock is more concerned about their reputation, lead buildup and shooting reloaded ammo can both harm reliability in some instances. Their reputation is founded on reliability so it is natural for them to discourage these.
