My husband rebuilt our kitchen all by himself, cabinets and all, about four years ago! I thought we'd never have a kitchen again, because he had a real job, too!

I had so much fun knocking out the wall between the living room and kitchen.
Now the house is all open and appears much bigger than it use to seem.

It was SO worth it. We cooked on the grill and in an electric skillet for a long time. I washed dishes in the bathbub. Memories! :hearts:

Looks good! Can't wait to see it finished!

 :wavey:

Bogey - Maple with a dark stain. Ctops are cement. First batch didn't turn out exactly like I wanted, but it'll do for now...

kcb - multiple logs! I'm not at my comp with most of my pics, but here's one from yesterday...

WOW!!!! Looks like you have an INCREDIBLE view!!!!

You'll have to let me know how you like the log home. That is something we have been interested in for a very long time.

I've HEARD about cement countertops, too. Interesting! Post a picture when it's all done!

I think that I saw the Cement Countertops on HGTV but I'd love to see what yours look like. It has been a while since I saw that.

We used Silestone, which is one step from Corian Counter tops, when we renovated our kitchen.

We just re-did our guest bath and used a very small piece of granite in there.

There are so many new things on the market, it's amazing!

These are a little different than normal concrete... I was experimenting...

They also look a lot darker in person... dark grey and black. With a 'wet look' sealer.

I'll probably replace them with soapstone soon...

What a view!!! Awesome.
Yeah, you're gonna like that set up but if you're like us you'll be needing a couple more freezers in the cellar. We each have a college size fridge in the bar and man does that make a difference having your bottled water, beer, ice tea, etc. in another fridge than the kitchen one.

mhambi

Yeah, I'll have fullsize chest freezer in the garage for extra storage capacity. And the ones shown aren't a single unit- they're seperate units made to look like they're one. Actually quite reasonable too. :)

It's the dishwasher that I'm really proud of....

Those new dishwashers are really something. We have a Miele with the controls on the top edge of the door so nothing shows. Very quiet too.

I have a log home also. It's a passive solar, envelope house. My logs are square, southern white pine.

Something that I added to the house last summer was a Honda powered, propane fired, totally automatic, 12,000 watt backup generator. The outfit that I bought it from was out this morning for yearly service and it has 27 hours on it. It checks itself out and runs for 10 minutes every 2 weeks so that means that it ran the house and barn for 22 hours and 40 minutes last year when out powere was out. Well worth the investment because we have 4 freezers (1 upstairs in the kitchen and 1 chest and 2 uprights in the cellar along with a kitchen fridge and 2 college size ones, upstairs..

It is great! But I'll have to wait until we build our dream home. I don't think it will fit in our kitchen since we renovated it. ACTUALLY, it'd fit better now, than it would have before we renovated. BUT modifications would definitely
be required.

<---NOT asking hubby to do anymore "modifications!

<---Can wait patiently!

I wish I could remember the one that my inlaws put in their house when they built 12 yrs ago. I do know it was Swiss made and stainless steel inside and out. You could not hear the thing even running. Then about 3 yrs ago, they had to replace it. It was cheaper to buy a new one than to fix the old one.

I think they have a Kenmore now. Stainless Steel with the buttons on the inside top to conseal from view. It 's quiet too.

Now, mine on the other hand, sounds like the Space Shuttle getting ready to launch!

When we ordered our appliances the dishwaser was supposed to be a Kitchen Air. Of all the strange things to happen.........I was in my local hunting/fishing/gun store looking at gun safes and the salesman made a comparison to the safe that I was looking at with buying a cheap dishwasher and he went on talking about dishwasher and not the safe and how I should buy the best dishwasher available. Turns out he sold appliances for 12 or 15 years and knew his stuff. Miele and Bosch were the highest rated ones at that time and after talking to him about it I changed my order to a Miele. Glad I did. You never know when you pick up good advice in a gun store!

That's a great story. Bosch is still one of the (if not THE) top rated dishwashers. Siemens is a rebadge of Bosch so I hope we'll be happy. :)
