thanks ahead of timeAt 100 yards they have about the same energy as a 9mm, less than half the energy of a .223/5.56 NATO. I wouldn't use it on anything larger than a ground hog. It is STRICTLY a varmint round. The heaviest bullet I've seen in a factory load is only 45 grains. Using one on a deer or hog would be cruel and irresponsible at any range.

thanks ahead of time Get yourself a real caliber to shoot deer with. You might as well be asking us if we think a BB gun will kill deer and hogs.

Sure it'll kill the deer, a .22 LR will kill a deer, but it's really not the best cartridge for the job. Check your state laws too, in Minnesota it simply would not be legal to hunt deer with.

The .22 hornet is a great cartridge but a deer cartridge it is not.

i was thinking the same but ive shot 9 animals with the 22 and my buddy shoots everything with it... 3 350 bar hogs....4 250+ sows.... 1 8 point wt dressed at 127 and 1 doe dressed at 90.....now all of these shots were 50 to 75 yrs away dropping all right away the hogs were shot behind the ear and the eight point was shot low neck and doe shot high neck...both deer ran maybe 10 yrs at the most i was using winchester 46 gr hollow points i believe not sure if they were hollow points but it was 46 gr....they also are great for gator hunting as we have shot mulitple 12fts and 5-7ft those are the tasty ones

The Smallest caliber i have used to take a Deer was 223 and i thought that was on the Very Small Side. So a 22 Hornet is definitely not a good choice.

A .243 would be a much better choice for hogs and deer.

yea i know its a small caliber but i have no problem using it within 100 yds...i have my browning 270 308 25-06 12g and my savage 243. for any furthers shots

If you have the calibers you just mentioned then why would you even ask about using a 22 Hornet for Deer? The 25-06 is the Perfect Deer Round.

So why are you asking us if the .22 hornet is a good choice for Fl deer if you are already using it for that purpose.

Seems like it works for you, even if the rest of us think it's a bad idea.

Ditto that. If you're looking for validation, you're not likely to find it. While the .22 hornet may kill an animal that falls in the large game category (though Florida deer tend to be small) it's not a great first choice. It's also a poor choice for large hogs IMO.

yes this caliber does work for me and yes florida deer are about the size of a full grown dog but i just wanted to hear everyones opinon on this caliber as i was thinking the same as all of you...but he proved me wrong...i was not familiar with this caliber until he gave it to me and said go hunting and after those 3 hogs came out and i was chilling in my stand with a 7 point underneath me but i dont shoot anything under 8 points so he was a no go..but those hogs got it all behind the ears then i was hooked just because theres no kick and its quiet so you can stay up there and they come back 10 min later i love it and theres no bag limit..plus i get paid to shoot hogs
