View Full Version : 20 gauge HD Round
New to the shotgun world. I just bought a used 20 gauge Stoeger shotgun. I plan on hunting small game but my question was: What is a good load for home defense? Thanks, Slainer

#3 buckhot works well, and slugs will also do the job.
I actually perfer the 20Ga to the 12 Ga for this purpose.

We keep our Mossberg 500 20-gauge loaded with 3 rounds of #2 buckshot, followed up by two slugs. My wife is only 5' 2" and 120 lbs, so she prefers the Mossberg to my 12-gauge Rem 870.

Out that 20ga. Stoeger, I would use #1 buck. I have a shotgun very simular to yours, and the #1 buck is very nasty, in the testing we have done out back here. From 0 to 25yds, we were very impressed with the results. Of course this is an improved bore/choke, I don't know what your choke or cylinder is, but you might try it if you have a place to do that.........
Good luck.
