I have been carrying some sort of 1911's for most of my conceal carry days. After the last couple of years my back has been getting to me.I am now going to start useing my G 36 more often.I was wondering how many of you guys switch once and a while to save your back and hips? Thanks in advance.
I carry both but lean to the 4" and 3" alloy 1911's for concealed carry because of the weight difference. The Glock 36 has always been my favorite for cc except when it is really hot, then i go with a snubbie S and W .38 +p in a pocket holster.
The weight is a big issue in cc for me, not so much because of my back but just for comfort.

I don't carry a 1911 smaller than a 4 inch, so for deep cover I carry a 36
I carry a G30 in kydex in warm weather because I do not have to worry about sweating on it & ruining either the leather or, more importantly, the finish of my 1911.

I rusted my G30 when I had it:alex:

We own and love three 1911A1 pistols, including a carry size Kimber. However, our G36 is the pistol that hides under our shirt virtually 100% of the time. Again, we think the 1911A1's are plenty good, but for us the 36 is simply better overall for carry.
We trudge on.

Dude, I straight up EXERCISE with my G30 on - bike riding - and cannot make it rust!!!
Do you sweat hydrochloric acid or something??
I went to carrying a Kimber Ultra CDP II, huge difference from my all steel Les Baer. Went from a back breaker to one that I forget I have on most of the time.

I traded carrying a 1911 to the G30. Lighter, everybit as easy to conceal, 10+1, and everybit as accurate!

If your G30 is as accurate as your 1911, there's something wrong with your 1911. ;)
I have carried a G36 for the last 2 years. I just bought a Kimber Stainles II. I carry it in a Milt Sparks Summer Special II. It is great but if I am going to be carrying all day I still take the G36. The Kimber gets to my back.

My usual carry is a Springfield fullsize 1911 in SS, Mil-Spec.
Secondary is a Glock-23. Due to weight.
But for the most part I can conceal the SS Springfield Mil-Spec just as easy, or better than the Glock.

I carry one of my Glocks quite a bit. To be honest, I don't like subjecting my nice 1911s to the wear and tear of daily carry.
Got 7 1911's but I carry a 2in model 65 S&W:whistling:

I know this is Glock Talk, but I find the Glocks to different than the 1911 for carry for me. I shoot the GSSF Matches, but for carry and something smaller I look to a smaller 1911.

I have owned and sold 2 different G 36s, nothing wrong with them other than they bit my pinkie. Have carrird a 26 for the last few years and if I change, it will probably be for a 27.
I own several 1911's and shoot a Trojan in IDPA.

I carried a G30 for a couple of years, but once I got to shooting 1911s I just can't go back to carrying a Glock even though I still have a few in my collection. So I find it sort of surprising to hear of 1911 guys carrying Glocks especially considering the choices available like aluminum frames and shorter barrels in the 1911 platform.

Just carry a Kimber and you won't feel so bad. I hear what you're sayin' and I don't carry my best 1911s either, but I've carried a Custom CDP for a few years and the same with an Eclipse 10MM, even a S&W 1911PD lightweight commander now and again and it doesn't bother me that the finish has worn on these "working class" guns.

My other carry gun is a P3AT.
My smallest 1911 is a CCO size 9mm. The 26 is so convienent, I just can't get away from it.
Reliability is not an issue. Unlike a lot of the 1911 "experts" here, I have found 1911s to be very reliable. My range buddy shoots a G17, I shoot a 9mm Trojan. I have shot close to 700 rounds during our last 3 range sessions with no cleaning and no issues. Pretty sure he hasn't cleaned his 17, so we are running neck and neck.
Best, Rik

I know, but I carry Glocks exclusively in warmer weather because they simply cannot rust - the frame is plastic and the tennifer finish is absolutely rust-proof.
As I said in a post above - I carry my G30 right next to my bare skin when bike riding, I sweat ALL over that thing, and it looks just like it did two years ago.....it simply will not rust.
You can't say the same for a 1911.....though I could get one hard-chromed, I guess....but can you hard chrome aluminum?
Frankly, I just don't have to worry about my Glocks at all.....I feel like I can kinda, sorta "beat" on them, so to speak, even though I take excellent care of all my guns.......ya know what I mean?
Now, in the cooler months when I'm wearing an undershirt and don't sweat, THAT'S when I break out the 1911s for carry.......

My carry 1911 is a Wilson Combat KZ45 which is one of the lighter 1911's out there.I still feel well protected with my Glock 36 as long as I carry the extra mag.The one thing about the G36 is that it is so light you forget it's there.

That's kind of where I am. I have a G26 for deep/sweat concealment. I have a G19 I thought would be my main CC piece. It will not ride as comfortable, draw on point as easily, and prints as much as my full size 1911 just shows the width instead of the corner of the butt. The 1911 is a dream to carry compaired to the glocks. My opinion of course so make your own judgement and be happy with it. My G19 may go away to fund another 1911 but for now I am hanging onto it. Its my throw in a box, stash with multiple spare rounds, won't corrode, have for a rainy day gun. 1911's are just my preferance but my Glocks do fit a role in my life :)
Here in SW Colorado, I carry a S&W 642 in a front jeans pocket in the warmer months and a S&W 1911Sc .45 when it is colder and a jacket is desirable. Pictures below.
I would like to try a G36 one of these days.
