I am looking for a 1911 that is more carry friendly than my SIS RL. As a full-sized all steel gun, the SIS is a beast to carry and I am looking for something to trade it on. Today I saw the Sig GSR RCS the commander slide on an officer frame with nitron finish, night sites, dehorned, with thin grips. I have to admit it was a good looking gun that appeared to be carry friendly while being more range friendly than, say, an alloy ultra kimber (I imagine that the really small and light 1911s can take it out of you after enough rounds at a range trip).
Does anyone have experience with this model specifically or the commander slide/officer frame combination broadly speaking?
I have a Colt Concealed Carry Officers model that is a lightweight Officer frame with a Commander slide. It carries well and functions 100 percent. Take down & reassembly are less trouble than my Colt New Agent. I've always heard that the longer slide is more reliable & maybe less finicky about ammo.
I have a Springer Compact that works very well for CCW. They don't make them anymore but Kimber makes an equivalent.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I talked to the people at my local gun shop again today about a trade, my SIS for their Sig RCS Nitron. Now I just have to decide if I am going to do it or not...

To me, the Officer's frame and Commander slide would be the ideal carry 1911. Here is a thread I started on this very subject awhile back. Some good info in there.

Check out Olympic Arms COHORT model. www.olyarms.com I have one and love it. It carries MUCH better than my S&W full size 1911.

I have a Springfield Compact, with a 4" barrel.
This makes a very good carry pistol.
I do not have any problems with it.

Wilson Combat CQB Compact LW. Concur with others Commander/Compact slide and Officer's frame is top notch for CCW

I know I'm a little late giving advise. I have a Sig Compact. It is a great gun and carry piece. The true Commander barrel and bushing gives more reliability than a 4 inch bullingstien gun. For me anyway and my hand size it is the perfect carry gun. The Sig has no MIM parts and is set up ready to go out of the box. I was skeptical of the EE after Kimber screwed the pooch with their's. But this one works and is theoretically better than the IE. I have over 4000 trouble free rounds thru mine.I have no complaints with the SIG Compact. In fact I collect CCO's. I have Colt's, Nighthawks, and Baer's CCO's. I carry the Sig everyday and keep the others nice for collections. The Kimbers, Wilsons, and Springers are not true CCO's.
Oh, and by the way Sig makes a LW version. It really shoots nice. My friend bought one to carry last month and we shot 400 perfect rounds thru his. Recoil seemed only sightly more than my all steel CCO's.
Trade the SIS for the Sig and don't look back.
I have an old Pro Carry and it's my favorite 1911 edc.I just got a Raptor in Commander size, ain't had a chance ta carry that yet.'08.
