:)
We used to heat by wood so we would use kerosene heaters until it was COLD since you can't exactly put a wood fire out easily because it got warmer than expected that day. Alf, my dog, loved to lay in front of the kerosene heater and bake himself. When he wanted it lit, he would go lay down in front of it and look back and forth between the humans until somebody fixed him up.
Now, we have a gas furnace and the cats like to snooze on the vents. :)

We have reversed heatpumps in the house. But a fire gives soo much athmosphere and as you can see, the doggies love it :)

Not to mention you can toast marshmallows!
We have gas logs for backup heat but yick! You don't want marshmallows off gas!
A wood fire just wraps you up like a favorite blanket does. It is a very warm heat. :)
Dogs hate winter time...especially the rain.

My Alf loved snow! A few times when it was deep enough, he spent as long as we would leave him out making tunnels and rolling in it! We would bring him in, give him a warm bath to warm him up then dry him just for him to go play in the snow again.
