Supplies for my 1st Grader:

2 Clorox Wipes (yes, it says only 2 clorox wipes)
1 box quart size bags
3 boxes Kleenex
1 box baby wipes (refillable is fine)
1 pkg cap erasers
1 pkg paper towels
1 can Lysol spray
1 spiral notebook- one subject


Now....for my 3rd Grader:

4 boxes 24 ct crayons
1 pkg washable markers
1 pr scissors
3 pkgs #2 pencils (24 ct or higher)
3 boxes kleenex
1 large liquid glue
4 glue sticks
1 pkg unlined note cards
1 pkg 4 ct multicolored highlighters
1 12 oz bottle hand sanitizer
6 packs wideruled notebook paper
2 large packages cap erasers
2 marble composition notebooks
2 plastic folders w/ pockets and brads
1 sm pkg clear plastic sheet protectors
1 zippered bank bag
1 antibacterial wipes


Boys: large paper plates, Zippered Sandwich bags and paper towels
Girls: small paper plates, gallon ziploc bags and red pens

All the supplies are "pooled" together and every one uses them. There are at least 24 students in each class.......that's ALOT of crayons, pencils and paper!


I told my boss just to be a smart butt, I should take 2 clorox wipes and put them in a baggie and when the teachers askes that that is, tell her "That's the 2 clorox wipes the supply list called for".......:rofl: :rofl:

Thus kids whose parents don't supply are provided for by your efforts.

Yeah, that is kinda what they are doing here. Some parents actually get a note sent home with their child at Christmas break saying that they need X supplies because they are out.



Might I also add......this is the PUBLIC schools, not private. I went to the same public schools as my girls and we only had to supply for US, not the entire class and we sure did NOT have to supply the cleaning supplies!!

I would not be suprised if next year they start having us bring packages of toilet paper.....

When I was in school, ALL cleaning supplies were furnished to the school wheather it was for the classroom or the janitorial folks.

My little girls will start school in a few years (2011).

What will they do when I refuse to supply anything beyond SCHOOL supplies and not cleaning supplies?

Even though I understand just how corrupt some school PTAs are, I'm still going to join and run for office.

A friend of mine joined and ran for PTA President and won. She saw the corruption, had the books professionally audited, they fired her as president, claimed the audit never happened and have threatened her with legal action unless she shuts up about it. (She is taking her copulas notes and the audit results to the local media, since the school and state PTA are doing nothing.)

I'm going to have a lot of fun on the PTA!!!

If it's bad, I’m going to home school my little one.

You don't think you kids will get to keep all that stuff. They pulled this same type of stuff, when I was in school. My parents made sure I had everything I needed, but didn't take care of anyone else's children. It would piss the teachers of to no end. I don't know how many times I was sent home with increasingly more insistent letters for the supplies.

It was sad to, because not everyone had the stuff they needed. I felt bad for them, but didn't give my stuff up. This being the early to mid 80's, the schools still were supposed to supply the kids with the stuff they needed.

Not to mention those very same parents pissing and moaning that the SCHOOLS do not do an adequate job of educating THEIR kids!!! Someone once said it takes a village, and the "people" took it to extremes. Why should THEY raise THEIR kids when the village can do it for them... :steamed:

My bet is that students whose parents are too "poor" to provide these supplies (or would rather use their money on a carton of Camels and a case of Bud) will have them provided by the "winners of life's lottery".

So I'd just ignore it.

There is no written policy that "we" the parents have to provide these items. The only thing I'm required to do is SUPPLY THE NECESSARY SUPPLIES FOR MY CHILD. But like you said, some parents would rather spend it elsewhere (granted don't think I would not like to spend it elsewhere myself)....but I think this time around I'm just buying the necessary items. Then only thing I worry about is what kind of little "snide" remarks the teachers may make to my child, instead of me, if I do not supply these items.

Maybe you should include a note with your child's supplies that says "Mom's wish list" and put on there things like new car, 2 month vacation, new wardrobe...etc. I bet they'd get the message.

Teachers should have the planning ability to know what's going to be needed and either purchase it and claim it or submit a list with the start of school supply request. If the system or the school is so poor that they can't provide a clean learning environment for your children, perhaps it's something that needs to be brought before the attention of the school board, the local media and/or anybody else that sees fit to listen.

Here, the State gives the Teachers X amount of money for the school year to buy items for their classroom and supplies. Back when I was in school, some teachers got up to around $1000.00. Now they are doing good to get $300 for the year. Unfortunately, that is not MY fault. We voted for property taxes to be raised so the schools would have more funding.......granted, new schools have been built, others renovated, but no extra money has gone to the teachers or programs like they said it would.

The teacher's get so little money now from the State because they wanted raises.....Raises, they got. The State dipped into the money that they would get for their classroom and gave it to them in their salaries.......So they are still getting the money, just not in one lump sum.
