Does anyone know if the Meprolights night sights come with the 3/16" hex tool necessary to install them? If not what is a cheap one to pick up?

I found the Ameriglo one, but it's almost double the price if you include shipping... :-\

I've purchased several sets of Meprolight sights -- they USED to be my favorites. None came with a nut-driver for the front sight. On the other hand, Ameriglo always includes a nut-driver with their Glock front sights and sight sets.

Watch ebay - I picked up a front sight hex nut driver for $4.95 shipped, turned out to be from Lone Wolf Distributors.

Every aftermarket brand sight I've had used the same 3/16th hex nut, so it really doesn't matter what brand it is (in my experience) as long as it fits!

I was surprised that the TruGlo TFOs didn't come with a tool, those cheap bastages...hehehe

(unless you're going to thin the walls yourself with a grinder).

full clearance meaning to tighten it all the way? and what do you mean by shallow walls? The point where the actual slot begins?

A normal-- say Craftsman tool is too big to fit in the confined space of the Glock slide---you either have to buy the special tool OR modify an existing one in your toolbox.

I guess I will have to look at it tomorrow when they get here. Because I took the slide off and it looks like it will fit. do you mean the nut will be too close to the front lip of the slide so the driver wont fit around the nut? and what modification is needed?

is the Lone Wolf Armorers tool a good buy?

"is the Lone Wolf Armorers tool a good buy?"

Based on the one personally have will have to say no!

The main body is brass and that's where the nut-driver is located. Walls are thin and they made it deep enough only for the thicness of the "Thin-Head" screw. Consequently it was easily stripped! This particular toll is over 4 yrs. old......Hopefully they have redesigned the nut-driver end?

The Ed Brown & OEM Meprolight nut-drivers are super-sturdy by comparison.

The best front sight tool is the one you make out of a Craftsman 3/16" nut driver.

Cut the 'socket' down so that it is only about 1/8" deep, and sand/grind down the outside of the socket to about 1/3-1/2 of it's current thickness. Otherwise, yes, it won't fit between the front of the slide and the screw head. It also won't fit through the hole in the 34/35 slide to access the nut.

As far as "best" goes, it's the one that the maker will warranty/replace for life if it fails or breaks for any reason.

Bronwell's has a "No questions..." warranty and this kit does fit the dust-cover hole in all 34/35-24/17L slides.
Don't even need to buy with their handle but all the bits store nicely in the hollow of the handle with a screw-cap:

well the lone wolf tool worked fine and seems to be pretty sturdy.

i used blue loctite on the threads instead of red in case I decide to take it off later

Ed Brown makes one for around $5.00.
