Howdy,
Wondering if this is an issue. One time after a user logged on through the regular screen and gave password, a box popped up asking for the password (looked official). Entered password and it proceeded as before. Never happened again. BTW its XP SP2 with Commodo firewall, Avast and AVG updated protection. Problem???

pascalThat really depends on what you were doing at the time, "looked official" doesn't really help much. I've seen e-mail programs that are having trouble connecting to mail server ask for the password

Thanks for your response. It did not appear to be the usual Thunderbird password box. Can't remember well enough to be more specific on official looking except by meaning, like a legitimate MS question. It appeared just after the home screen was displayed. Not much to go on!

Are you connected to domain resources or do you have mapped drives? If you have a shared drive mapped using a different password than the local users' password and a program tries to access data on a mapped drive it might prompt you for a password. This would fit the description of seeing a credential request without knowingly clicking on something.

Thanks for the thought out response, but no it is a single computer. Thanks again, I'll look to see if it happens again and document it better!
