I'm looking to get a new computer...
I;ve been browsing the ads and looks like this laptop is what I want. The 17" monitor and the bonus of the keypad is very nice. I don't want a 15".
So the question is, is 1 gig of extra ram worth the extra 100 bucks?

$649 from staples

link is to cnet since staples hotlink isn't working for me. ad page:

It appears they are identical except for the 1 gig DDR2 memory difference.

If anyone has a suggestion of a better lap top for the same basic price range, please let me know.
My uses are basically net surfing, movie watchin, word processing, spread sheets, music. I don't do any computer gaming anymore, so I don't need all the processing power I did a few years ago, but I want something advanced enough that I can still use it in 4-5 years.

Whats the verdict? :dunno:

I bought 4gb of ram for my laptop on line for just under 100.00.

I got it at
Newegg.com

Going to swing by the costco then decide... any suggestions would be helpful!

If they are the same except for the 1gb of ram, go for the one that is $100 less. For what you are doing 3gb should be plenty. Spend the extra money on a bag.

If you are going to run Vista, you need a lot of Ram. Buy the cheaper one, then buy extra ram. Ram is cheap now anyway, and fairly easy to install. I've bought from www.shop.kingston.com with good luck.

I bought this one for my father last Thursday at Circuit City for $649. Only 3 MB of ram and it runs Vista just fine so far from what I've seen. They raised the price back up to $829 on Saturday, so I got lucky. It's an HP Pavilion model dv9910us.

I thought it might be a bit of a dog compared to my desktop quad core 9450 with 4 MB, but it isn't.

Sales happen.

You didn't bother to click my links before you posted did you? One of them is to that computer on sale at another store again :tongueout:

Anyway I'm posting from the new laptop, Costco, after the $150 rebate $749 for the same HP but with 4 gig DDR2, 320 gig hard drive and best yet the warranties... 90 days no questions asked return, and between the factory, costco and amex costco a 3 year warranty. :wow:

I'm very pleased

I didn't a dv9910us on any of those links. From the little bit of research I did it looks like HP makes near-endless variations of their laptops.

Meanwhile, my point was about the stores sale prices and how fast they come and go.

Congrats on the new 'puter.

first of all, no way is 1gb more ram worth $100. if more ram is the only difference, then get the cheaper one. you can buy ram for like $20 at best buy when it goes on sale (newegg has great prices all the time though). just don't ever buy ram at best buy if it's not on sale, they're ripping you off.

nice find at costco!

That's funny, the cnet.com link had been taking me to a video, now it's taking me to a review. I love the 'net.
