Just curious; I've been 3 times, and I'm wondering if anyone knows what'll be on the line this time. Four of us are going to make it down for the night shoot, and are going to try out some of the stuff that's for rent. I hope a couple of guys bring out their .50 rifles, because the guys I'm coming down with have never fired one before.
I usually go, but I have to work this weekend. I'm not sure what's going to show up this year, but the last few times I've gone, I keep seeing the same people over again. You'll probably see a lot of the same people and their guns as last year.

Will be there for sure. It's the annual summer pilgramage to Dover. Volunteering to help out also this year.

The organizers have made it known that this was the last time they will be having this event.
They stated that the event has just gotten to large to insure safety there.
From thier post I got the impression that they were getting to much pressure from the anti-gunners to make it not worth the trouble.

Actually, it didn't have anything to do with anti-gunners. Dover-Foxcroft is one of the more pro-gun areas of the state. It has to do with safety as they said. There have been a couple incidents over the years with rounds going down range over the berm. Nobody got upset about it, but the insurance company jacked up their rates to astronomical levels because of that, and the proximity of the site to town. Also, the town of Dover-Foxcroft enjoyed the shoot and the money it brought into the community. The problem was, they're a small town and they did not have the police, fire, or ambulance resources to handle the doubling of the local population for the weekend, or emergencies if something went drastically wrong.
Don't count the yearly shoot out altogether though. There are a couple of other groups in state that are looking at taking it over. They're looking for a new area to hold it in. It will not be held by the Hiram Maxim society anymore, but it still may continue.
I'll keep folks posted as I hear more about it.
