While posting some pictures over on the BVA site, I found a couple of pictures of the old squad bays.

When we left for Beirut, we were still in the old squad bays. When we got back we moved into the new three-man rooms. While the rooms were nice, there was something about the old squad bays that I missed. Maybe it was the isolation that the three-man rooms caused. In the old squad bays there was a closeness of the platoon from living together.

When I returned from the first gulf war we Lejeune was full up. The officers got new condos on Topsail island and the rest of us got billeting in the condemded cockroach infested squad bays at Camp Geiger. Granted, we made the best of them by printing up cockroach hunting licenses and putting on our deuce gear and flak jackets, arming up with ronsonol lighter fluid and butane and lighter and hunting them at night. They were the old school squad bays, I still remember how happy I was to get out of there on a 113 degree day in July.

When we got back to LeJeune after Beirut, we moved into the three man rooms. This was about June/July 1983???

I was in 1/8, and we were out at Geiger in the Quads. When we returned from the Med in 88, we got moved to mainside in the 3-man rooms. Talk about culture shock.
