View Full Version : slide release issue
I recently bought a G36 and it can be very difficult to release the slide. I did some comparisons with my G19 and noticed something odd. The G19 slide release sticks way out when the slide is lock open. The G36 Slide release does not, however I can push it out by sticking my finger inside and pushing on it. I tried swapping the releases and it did the same thing. Its not that I cant release it, its just very hard. If I push it out its alot easier but still more difficult than the G19. Heres some pics. What do you think?

Why is the stock slide release so difficult to operate?
Because the slide release was not designed to be a 'release', but as it is correctly named: a 'slide stop lever'. The stock slide stop lever is designed to only lock back the slide, not release it. This is because the original design of the Glock pistol was to be used as a combat pistol and use the overhand technique to release the slide and charge the pistol. The extended slide stop lever (http://glockparts.com/tab1/store/item/ghae/Mag_Catches_and_Slide_Stop_Levers/Extended_Slide_Stop_Lever.html)is designed to be a slide release and enables the shooter to use their thumb to release the slide.
