Not trying to start a war, but everyone seems to be in love with the compact glock frame of the 19/23. Personally I think if feels weird. The grip stops in the meaty portion of my palm. Its kinda hard to explain but I don't care for it. I like the sub compact and the fullsize, but the compact, just dosen't do it for me. The really weird thing is that I carry G23 mags as reloads for my G27, but thats a different application and to each his own I suppose. Flame suit on.

Comments please.

The only Glock I would buy would be a compact, (19,23,32,38).

I have both a 23 and a 27. The 23 had the pointy part of the finger things land right in the meat of my fingers, so I sanded them down. So now my 3rd gen looks like a 2nd gen. HOWEVER, with my 27, they land just where they should be. (GO figure) My next Glock may be a 29, who knows where they'll be?

I find the full size G17 more comfortable than the compact G19. The latter's grip is just a tad too short.

A lot of folks find the 19/23 (compact) sized frames just plain don't fit their hands. The grooves push their finger into bottom of the trigger guard.

It definitely has a different feel than full size and compact models, but you get used to it. It pushes my finger into the trigger guard, I definitely have thick fingers, so I know what you mean, but it doesn't bother me. Also, my pinky is at least half off of the bottom of the grip, but that doesn't bother me either.

I do think Glock could have done a better job with the finger grooves, but once you get used to it, even if it feels akward at first, you end up not minding it very much. Notice how there are two rows of those little pegs between finger grooves on the top and bottom, you will only find that on the compact models, the sub-compacts and full size models have three rows between eatch groove.

IMHO, Glock shoulda made the compact with three rows of pegs on the top and whatever wa left over on the bottom doesn't really matter to me, since my pinky is half off. But compact is the best of both worlds, regarding concealability and capacity, you just can't beat it!

Yeah, it's a huge problem for me. My fingers all fit onto the front part of the grip - if I kinda squeeze them together - but what gets to me is that about a half inch of my palm/fleshy part of my hand sticks past the bottom of the back of the grip. This really makes me feel less secure when taking aim, and I keep shifting my hand around to get a better grip.

However, since we're only allowed one defensive firearm over here, I went for the compact in order to have the best possible combination for home defense/concealed carry. It fits the bill perfectly, and I love my Glock.

But if I had a choice, I would probably have gone for a G17 for home defense, and a subcompact for concealed carry.

I am allowed a 2nd handgun for sport shooting, and I'll probably go for a G17 there. But this one will have to be kept unloaded in a safe at all times, so it will probably NEVER be used in a defensive situation. Therefore, I guess I'd better get used to the G19 grip size if I want to make that critical shot count when the ***** hits the fan.

I always thought that South Africa had some of the better gun laws in the world, what kinda crap is "your only allowed 1 gun for defensive purposes"? What screwball proposed this rule? Can you at least have two of the same model in case one of them breaks?

See sig line.

I don't like the baby Glocks (26/27) I keep trying to make myself like them but I just can't get over how it feels in my hand. To me they feel like an object in my hnad where as my 19/23 feel like an extention of my arm.

Yeah, the liberals replaced our firearm legislation about 8 years ago, and basically based it on the canadian model - just a bit stricter.

1 Defensive firearm is all you're allowed, and you have to choose between a handgun, a shotgun or a rifle (no semi-automatic rifles allowed)

After that, you're allowed another 3 firearms for hunting or sport shooting purposes, but none of them can be for self defense purposes (in other words, if you're not at the range or busy hunting, they need to be locked in a safe in an unloaded condition.)

Your self defense firearms, however, can be concealed carried with you at any time, or kept on your person at home etc.

Therefore, if that one breaks you're left with nothing in the meantime. Also, if you happen to actually use your gun to defend yourself, it will probably be confiscated as evidence by the police in the subsequent court case, and you'll be sitting without it for anything up to a year until the case is resolved.

It's pretty unfair, and a perfect example of what happens when the lefties take control of government, but what can you do. Just make the best of it, I guess. That's why I went with the best gun I could get, and one for which spare parts, accessories and ammo would be most readily available and probably the cheapest to obtain.

I went for the versatile, durable and highly reliable G19.

The full size fit my hand better. I don't care for the finger grooves much but they really don't bother me much. The grooves are thinner on the newer Glocks and they feel a little better. My middle finger has a hard calous on it from shooting the 19 but it quit bothering me years ago. I carry the 19 because it's a great compromise in size, weight, capacity and it's so easy to shoot well.

The full sized Glocks fit my hand better but the 26 & 27 are much easier to conceal. I just adapt to and endure the discomfort when it comes time to shoot the mini's. The same thing applies to a snub .38 revolver.

meh, i'm sorta with you here. i do like my 23, but i think smooshing all of the finger grooves together to make them fit is kind of silly. that said, i shoot it as accurately as my 17, but its not nearly as comfy.

I never thought I had big hands/fingers until I held a G19. All Glocks cram my ring finger up against the underside of the trigger guard, but the 19 is almost painful.

Love my 17 and to a lesser degree, my 26. Perhaps a 2nd gen 19 or 3rd with finger grooves removed would be perfect balance of size, sight radius, capacity, etc?

Gentlemen, have you ever heard that football "Is a game of inches?" Well handgun fitting is a game of millimeters, as it were.
Pearce +0 magazine end plates are the answer to the problem described above. Look at the Sigs and HKs. see the mag end plate design?
Put that on your Glock, with Pearce +0 magazine end plates. Suddenly, your pinkie finger has a comfortable place to sit, AND does its part to pull your muzzle DOWN, onto the target where we all want it.

To solve your palm issue, GET HIGH ON THE BACKSTRAP OF your weapon. As high as possible. JAM the web of your thumb and forefinger wayy up in there. Then the Pearce +0 end plates will allow your pinkie to pull your muzzle right down onto the target, as I mentioned. That, my friends, is how you grip a Glock pistol. "High and tight." :drillsgt:

My G 23 (gen 3) is a perfect fit, no mods. I really mean perfect, like it was custom. I have very long fingers/palms but also very skinny. We're talking arachno-dactyls here. The backstrap is right in the web of my thumb, the finger grooves are the width of my fingers while squeezing tightly, and my fingertips are on the grip right on the opposite side of the middle of my palm.

My wife on the other hand, has a real hard time with the G 23. She's got stumpy fingers.

Stock? don't like them one bit, would not own one.

I do have three G-23's (OD 23, 23C and one is just a Glock 23 frame with a AA .22 conversion kit permanantly attached), but all three have had the finger grooves removed, and trigger guard undercut, so they fit me perfectly now.

If I were in a position where I could not modify the frame (and many are) a 27 or 22 would do.

Sold my 3rd gen G23 for a 2nd gen G17.

I couln't be happier. Cheaper ammo, I'm more accurate with it, it's more comfortable to me. I just love this gun. it almost makes me want to sand the finger grooves off of my G21.

I wish they made a 2nd gen grip but with the rail for a light. I don't have any weapon lights, but I like the look and I like knowing that it's an option.

I've never been comfortable with either of these guns. I get pinky pinch everytime I fire one. I've given both of my G19's away (to my daughters so they're still in the house) since shooting them was downright painful.

For me it's the G17 & G26. Those are the work horses. Recently I purchased a G17L and have been having a great time getting to know her. Having said that...I know some guys and gals that love their G19's and woudn't trade them in for anything else!

My favorite Glock is the 26, I like it so well that I bought a spare. But I also like the compact, enough that after years of owning a G32 with extra G23 barrel I bought a G19 almost 3 years ago. It eats the Winchester 127 +P+ with no appreciable recoil whatever.

I don't like the compacts due to the finger grooves.

My solution is to carry a subcompact with Pearce extensions. Makes the total length of the grip front about the same as the compact, with grooves that are spread further apart. Also, I can swap to a normal length mag when I need added concealment.

I like the G19 sized Glocks. The finger grooves don't hit me perfectly, but it's not uncomfortable or anything. I was perfectly happy with my 3rd gen G19, UNTIL I shot my buddy's 2nd gen G19! I just had to get one myself. I picked up a good used 2nd gen G19, and sold the 3rd gen and never looked back. I don't use a tac-light on my carry gun, so I kind of like the smoothness of the 2nd gen anyway.

I don’t like the finger groove spacing on the compacts. My hands don’t fit and they are uncomfortable to shoot, for me. I love the 3rd generation full size guns and generally carry one everyday. When I’m not, I am carrying a 2nd generation G-19 that fits me great due to the lack of grooves. If you have to have a compact, hunt for a 2nd generation.

To each his own. Not everyone will like or dislike a particular model of gun for the same reasons.

I read several posts about the compact grip being a tad too short. If you like everything else about the compact size, you owe it to yourself to try one of the finger extensions for the mag. I have a Pearce on several of my G19 mags and it makes a big difference--really increases the comfort and security of the grip with only adding a half inch or so to the grip length.

I would love to have a compact, but I think it would have to be a second generation with the GAP mag floor plate. The finger groves on the third generation don't fit my hand well, and the grip is about half a pinky too short. I have a 27 that fits two of my fingers great, however, I'm still trying to get used to the tucked pinky shooting style. The GAP floor plates help a great deal on the 27, so I think they would help on the second generation compact.

I was comparing the xd9 and the 19 the other day. The xd9 had the longer grip and one handing it seemed pretty comfortable so I grabbed the 19 and it seemed a little small and my pinky is kinda falling off the end. I thought it was kinda odd since I'm very comfortable shooting the 19. I realize then the my weak hand cups my other hand up and forms a brace between the bottom and the trigger guard. Shooting two handed makes the 19 the right size, but one handed it's a little small. I haven't tried any +0 extensions so I don't know how they would affect my grip.

Mine feels ok to me. I can shot it to hit what I point at but IMO, the XD or XDm is way more ergonomically designed. The xds are completely different feeling than the Glocks. xds feel a lot nicer in the hand. Only reason I went with Glock is for the proven reliability and available parts/ ability to repair it myself. That said, I really like my Glock and I happily carry it every day.

I myself love glock. The M&Ps feel pretty good to, but I dont like the trigger. The SAs just feel weird in my hand, probably due to that grip safety sticking up. Now back to the glocks. I have thought that they are the best and most reliable combat handguns made. I know a lot of people dont agree and that is fine. That is my opinion. I could probably count on one hand (and still have fingers left over) the problems Ive had with my glocks. I also love sig, but had more FTFs with sig.

To be perfectly honest, I prefer the fullsize frames but...

-The G23 is a bit easier for me to carry A-IWB (which obviously rules out the G35,my ultimate preference)
-I don't completely trust the G22

That said, I prefer the 3rd Gen G23 because I can't stand the half-moon cutout on the 2nd gen frames.
The finger grooves do not bother me so much....I could do without them but it's not a deal breaker. Ideally the G23 sized guns would have the same last finger groove on the bottom and none in between.

That's my opinion, take it or leave it.

I cant hold the finger grooved compact models. My 23 is a second gen and I love it. I also love the full size guns with winger grooves.

If you look at the grip between a 3rd gen compact and full size, you will see that the first finger ridge on the compact is closer to the trigger guard than the full size frames. There are three lines of checkering between the guard and the ridge on a full size and only two lines on a compact.

That little extra amount makes a huge difference for me.

It's just a bit too small for my hand, also.

With a pinky extender on the mag, though, it's good.

But if I have to do that, I might as well get a sub.

So for me it's the full-size or subs.

the best grip for my hand is that of G20/G21, follow G17/22 etc.

A lot of folks find the 19/23 (compact) sized frames just plain don't fit their hands. The grooves push their finger into bottom of the trigger guard.

This is whats happening to me.

my hands are small so it fits perfectly. The full size glocks are monstrous to me

I like the full size grip.

I used to hate the way that the compact frames fit my hand. My middle finger would push up against the bottom of the triggerguard and be very uncomfortable. In the past month though it's gotten a lot better for some reason. So while I still prefer the way that the full-sized frames feel, the compact frame Glocks are finally comfortable enough to shoot so make it a non-issue. That's why I carry a G19.

I think the G19 is a great choice for someone who intends to own only one handgun. Personally, I prefer the combination of a G26 and a G17. Contrary to what I've seen posted from fans of the G19, I think the G26 is much easier to conceal (especially in an appendix carry position) and it can be loaded with G19 magazines when greater capacity is desired. For a duty firearm, the G17 is much better than the G19. IMO, the G19 is the Momma Bear of the three.
