What are the advantages of the 25 cent trigger job? Does it reduce trigger pull weight? If so by how much?

No, the so called ".25 cent trigger job" does not reduce trigger pull without additional modifications. It just smooths out the "feel" of the trigger pull.
I'm assuming you know how to detail strip your glock? If so, you can add a (-) connector, so called 3.5lb connector, which will reduce trigger pull some but not a lot.
First you should determine why you want to reduce trigger pull and exactly what you want to use your gun for... self defense, target practice, competition, etc.
You can actually get the trigger pull down to 2-3lbs if that's what you really want to do. Send me a PM if you have questions.

the .25 cent trigger job will just clean up the action a little. a couple thousand rounds down range will eventually do the same thing

Largely a feel good measure IMHO (pride in doing something yourself, etc. etc), it certainly can't hurt, but as others have said, you would achieve the same results after a thousand rounds of firing, give or take. It does nothing to lighten your trigger, improve trigger reset or lessen pre-travel. It simply smooths out friction points.
