I just bought a new 870 6+1 capacity 870. I plan on using it for duty use. The problem is that it wont Always hold six shells and you can hear the spring binding. I have tried my best and cannot get a sixth shell in. Im using 2 3/4 shells. When I do get six in their, I rack one in the chamber and try to fill the tube and nothing happens. Im using a wilson combat magazine follower. It has double fed several times also. Any suggestions? I recently ordered an aluminum trigger group from brownells with some other upgrades. \
Any suggestions would help.
If you didn't know the factory tube ext is two pieces, a base and a tube, both threaded. Most of the problems with the factory 870 tube ext is because the tube is screwed into the base too tight. Take the tube ext off screw the base on until tight, not too tight or you will have a hell of a time getting it off. Then screw the tube into the base, not too tight, slightly tight. That should take care of your problem.

Thank You for the reply, I will try this and see if it helps. I did just notice that there is no ball detent spring and just a empty hole. Is this normal? and will it cause problems if it doesn't get fixed?
I would send the barrel in to one of the Remington service centers and have it fixed. The detent ball keeps the tube extension or mag cap from loosening. If you have a local smith that will do it cheap have him do it.

I went to bass pro shops and they put a new one on their for me. Alot of people say the police magnum is superior to the express. Whats your opinion?
I take it you have a Express. If so you got the better Express model. The one with the factory tube ext, the detent ball on the bbl lug and no mag tube dimples. The factory tube ext kit: longer high quality spring, tube ext and mag clamp. It is worth about $80 if you ever decided to sale it.
The 870P has heavier trigger group springs, compressed metal trigger guard, parkerize finish, little nicer stock & recoil pad, machined extractor. It is suppose to be smother out of the box but that is not always the case. The actions on the 870 are very simple and easy to smooth out. In my opinion the 870P is not worth the extra cost.
I would say you did well.

GC[/QUOTE They all are not parkerized. I have a blued one
Double feeding has been a Remington issue for years. That is one reason the spoon is slotted, one uses a small knife to push the shell back into the magazine. I sold mine and got a Mossberg.
