I've never installed sights before, but I borrowed a tool from a friend.
I wanted to test out just the front sight on my G19 but I may be selling it in a week or so.
Is it possible to remove the front plastic sight, put on a fiber optic one and then replace the front plastic sight?
Someone told me when you remove the front plastic one, you ruin it.

It is possible if you are so cheap that if you stuck a pennie between your butt cheeks you could squeeze a tear out of Lincolns eye.

The plastic factory front sight can be removed and then replaced. It's the Glock factory night sight that is crimp fitted and can't be removed non-destructively.
The plastic front sight is not very good to start with so you might consider replacing it with a metal Trijicon sight (it's not a night sight).

Not cool and has no bearing on the OP's questions.
I normally yank it out with no regard to saving it (thusly damaging it) but if properly pushed up from under the slide, it should be possible I would think.
If you have a very thin pointed pair of needle nose pliers, you can get the pin out and reuse the sight.

If you destroy it for some reason, a new front site is only a couple dollars...
i use a steel pick to remove the pin from the sight :wavey:

Yes, It can be done
Remove the slide
Take a very pointed sharp tool like an ice pick and pry out the pin from the inside of the slide (be careful...the pin is tiny!~)
Then squeeze the two prongs together and push the sight out
Re-install in opposite directions

If you don't want night sights, consider this to replace the plastic sight.

It's pretty easy. I use a dental pick (picked up at a gun show) and pull out the TINY stake. The sight will them pop out with no damage. It's just as easy to replace. As stated earlier, if you do mess it up, a new front sight is only a couple of dollars.
There is a guy in the "for sales" ( http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=898561 ) selling sets of front and back for $5.

Damn funny !!
Glock says no, but if you're careful removing it, it's possible.
Here's a pic that might help.....note that there is a small 'flange' on the bottom of the two 'legs' that grab the inside edge of the hole in the slide.

Plain steel front sights aren't too spendy though either......Ameriglo (http://www.ameriglo.net/weapon_site/store_pages/glock_front_sights.html)
