Nebraska became the last state in the union to pass a so-called "safe haven" law, designed to protect unwanted infants by allowing parents to legally surrender them at a hospital or other safe place without prosecution, according to stateline.org.
But unlike all the other safe have laws in the nation -- including New York's -- Nebraska's law allows parents to give up children up to age 19 -- instead of just as infants. Most other safe haven laws have a cut-off a few days after birth.
