The lima News Headline today was that there is a gang territory war going on in Lima. Well whoopy Doo,everyone within 100 miles of Lima knew that. This city is about 38,000 population and since the first of the year the Police have had over 300 reports of gunfire. Tombstone in the old West was safer. A young police recruit that works parttime in a supermarket in our town 15 miles from Lima told me that on his ride alongs, when they went in the bad areas of town in their patrol car they would have rocks thrown at them. The chief of police said the gangs were probably small (yeh right),and didn't think they were getting drugs to sell on the street from Detroit(yeh, right again). It's amazing how the city fathers of cities try to hide and cover up what is actully going on in their city so the people will stay calm.
There was a drive-by shooting of my hotel when I was in Lima.
Of course, I was in Lima, Peru, so I really have nothing but snarky comments to contribute.
Not to hijack the post but does the Lima Locomotive works still exist there?
Politicians and denial go together like stink and. . .
I'm pretty sure not. It was petering out since the 1950s and changing its product lines (cranes, or such). Much heavy industry moved out of Lima (thankfully the M1 tank is still there, me thinks). The Lima City council has been making it difficult for large businesses to operate there (taxation issues). Away they went.
Lima used to be known as "Little Chicago" several decades ago, due to its crime rate. History repeats.

You can say that again...I remember the chief of police in Syracuse NY adamantly denying there were gangs in Syracuse...
A year later there was huge news paper expose, and it came out that the "Boot Camp Gang" was around -- they were ruthless mofo's, no doubt.
The city had blinders on...
It took a while but the Syracuse police, State Police, and Fed's smashed the gang --- RICO, jail, etc...
I guess if you don't admit you have a problem, there is no problem...

What a pathetic situation... people murdering each other over turf wars in Lima Ohio. Are people really trying to live large and get rich by selling drugs in Lima? I just do not understand the dealers' motivation.
What do affluent people in Lima do?
-Build a decent (or at least large) house in the burbs
-Buy a country club membership (sometimes)
-Take a nice vacation or two
-Drive a nice car
...
And that's it! There is literally nothing else to do in that part of Ohio. Is that the lifestyle the Lima-area thugs are aspiring to? You can't live it up at the booty clubs or rent a posh apartment, or even any hot *****es and hos.
Am I just missing something here? Maybe these people are offing each other over insubstantial amounts of money?

Vacation in Youngstown.
Frankly I wouldn't vacation anywhere in Ohio. Lived there for 7 years. Unless you like rustic, Amish living you can vacation in Middlesfield and the outlying parts of Chardon.

Negative, a little town about 25 miles east of there has that title.

Gangs in Lima? Who wouldve thunk it? Damn, I usually go hang out in Lima, whenever i get tired of the gangbangers in Toledo.
Looks like i need a new area. Millbury, here I come. : )

No. They merged with Baldwin to form Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton, manufactured diesel locomotives for some years, but got its ass handed to it by GM and went out of business sometime in the 50s or 60s.
