recording from DVR to DVD?

i have 'dish network', and for the most part, i think it is a good service at a fair price.

anyway, i have several 'personal defence tv' episodes recorded on my DVR. i would like to record it to DVD. MY laptop can record DVD, or do i need to buy a peripheral DVD recorder?

i want to share them with a friend that teaches texas ccw license classes.

is it possible or am i dreaming?

it is def possible to do it with just the box and a computer. I lived with a guy that did it, I just dont have a clue how. There were cables and adapters involved, i know that much.
