Hi I have a glock 23 and a 27. I would like to get a converson barrel for them in 9mm just for range use. Can anyone tell me if i can just buy one for the 23 and use it in the 27. Having an 1/2" or so of barrel protruding form the 27 would not be a problem, just dont know if the diameter is slightly different between the two models.
I have a LW Glock 23 9mm conversion that I use for my G33. I havent had any issues. G23 barrels are compatible with G27/33.
G35 barrels are compatible with G22/31, but not G23/32 and G27/33
So, go get a G23 9mm conversion barrel and enjoy. :-)

The extra money can go to ammo.
No you can't use a 17 barrel in a 23 and 27

In my G27, I have factory 23,32 barrels just a accurate as the shorter 27 barrel. I recently bought a G27- 40/9 LWD conversion barrel that is the same length as a 23 barrel but is threaded. I believe that was all that was available. They are very accurate(either that or I am more accurate with 9mm). Anyway I've had no problems with just the barrel and a g26 mag. change.

I had a G27 & G23 too. After a lot of research, it looked like I would not only need a conversion barrel but change the extractor. Even then the reliabilty was in question.
I didn't have the money but decided to just buy a G19 and play it safe.
So far, so good (but out $1500).

You could have just swapped the ejector as well as the extractor, magazines and barrel and your 9mm ammo wouldn't have known the difference. The ejector on the 9mm is angled slightly inward to accomodate the smaller caliber.
Okay, I'm just a little confused; I bought a G27 and I mentioned contemplating buying a 9mm barrel (and 9mm mags) for target practice. A Glock armorer I talked to said it was not as easy as just buying a barrel and mags, but other changes were necessary. I mentioned this in a GT post and a member stated:
"...Most folks get by with just a conversion barrel and mags. Sometimes the trigger housing, spring loaded bearing, and extractor need to be changed to solve potential feeding/ejecting/extracting problems...."
Can I RELIABLY shoot 9mm at the range using the G27 with the 9mm barrel and mags WITHOUT adding the other parts mentioned above?

My LWD 40-9 barrel works 100% in my G23 and worked in my G27 with just a mag change. For range use, just swap the barrel and use a 9mm mag.
You could change the ejector and extractor if you planned to carry the G23 in 9mm. Some frown on that. However, I think if it runs 100% (after 300-500 rounds) that works for me.

as long as it's a conversion barrel I wouldn't have any problems using it at the range without changing the extractor and ejector. But I would under no circumstances use it as a carry or home defense weapon.
you MAY NOT use a factory 9mm barrel in a slide designed for any other caliber. The outside diameter of the 9mm barrel is significantly less than any other caliber Glock makes available in the US which would definitely reduce accuracy and may prevent the gun from functioning at all.

I have a 23 and a 27.
I bought a 9mm conversion barrel for the 23 but I use it almost exclusively in the 27 with no mods other than the magazine. With my reloads its 98% reliable. Just an occaisional falure to eject, which at a practice session makes for a opportunity to practice clearing the gun.
I bought it because I was able to buy several thousand rounds of 125g 9mm bullets for $20 at an estate sale. I already had brass so the $110 for the barrel paid for itself very quickly.
BTW... the other advantage of the aftermarket barrel is that many of them will shoot hard cast lead bullets which lowers your center fire cost even more.
