i've been looking around these forums for quite some time now, just decided to register the other day.

im trying to decide if i should go with the g26 or the g19. is there any differences between the two besides the sizes?

this will be my first gun and i plan on getting it around november-december. im also looking at the springfield xd9

I traded a 19 for a model 27 I love the .40 cal.For me the only difference is the 27 is much easier for me to conceal, the accuracy was pretty much the same for me.You cant go wrong with either one. good luck!

Ammo capacity G26 is 10+1 G19 is 15+1. And the 19 is about 4 oz heavier loaded weight.

Beware the "Do a Search" crowd! They'll be along shortly, if not before I submit my reply...

Anyway, I had a 19 and still have a 26. The 19 was phenomenal, but my brother wanted it SUPER bad. So, being the persistent pain in the a** he is, I reluctantly traded it for his CZ P01. Well, in the end despite my reluctance I feel I got the better end of the deal because of the unbelievable ergos of the CZ and a whole bunch of other things...not the least of which is the fact that I still have a 26. I do miss the 19, but that niche got more than filled with the CZ. And another niche is filled with the 26.

Bottom line for me: if I was to only have one 9mm Glock, it would be the 19. Since I am more than happy with my CZ, I do not feel the need for that. However, the 26 fills more than just being a 9mm Glock...it is smaller, lighter (yes, only slightly but significant enough for me) and more versatile than the 19. You can dress one up to a 19 with aftermarket barrels and 19 magazines with wraps, if you like.

So, if you CCW, get the 26. If you need a bedside, get a 19. Or do what I did: get a CZ P01 AND a Glock 26.

We can help you, but there are questions:

What do you want to use your new weapon for? Are you headed towards a police career?

How much danger are you in? How often do you travel through a high stress, high violence environment? Is that where you live?

How deeply do you need to conceal your weapon?

How do you want to carry this weapon, if that is your plan?

What have you seen as far as a concealed carry rig that appealed to you, that you don't know how to set up? :drillsgt:

Since I'm assuming you won't be eligible for a carry permit due to your age, I'd get the 19. I have both and love them both, but if I could only have one it would be my 19 (2nd gen). I absolutely love it. The 3rd gen didn't work for me due to the finger grooves, but the 2nd gen is awesome. Either way you go, you can't go wrong, and honestly, if you get it and don't like it, Glocks are always easy to move, even if you're just trading it for another one.

im not looking for a concealed license right now, maybe when im older (30s or so) but right now im looking for more of a home defense and just being about to go to the range and and have fun.

is there a accuracy issue with the smaller g26 compared the the g19? or are they both the same on that topic?

Do yourself a favor and get the Glock 19. It can be CCW or HD! For a first gun, you CANNOT go wrong with the G19!!!!

My 26 is every bit as accurate as my 19 (or my 17 for that matter).

I bought a g17.I thought I wanted a g26 until I held one at gander. They had a good price on it.THe gun was used with night sights for $449.It didn't fit my hand.
I went to a different GS and found a g19 and a g17.Me and the SO held the g19 and it didn't fit right either. We decided on the g17 and it has been good ever sense.I have 200rnds of WWB and 50rnds of speer GD jHP 124+p rnds thru it with no problems.

Just go and see what fits your hand.Hopefully you'll find somewhere that has alot of glocks in stock so you can try alot of them.
I am now thinking of getting a g36 since my local GS has one for $499.I need to stay away from lay away

im going to end up renting both the g26 and the g19 and see which one i like better. i guess the only difference is the size.

how would i go about buying a gun at a local gun show? i know i will have to do paper work and background check but do they do that at gun shows?

An FFL dealer has to do a background check but a private individual doesn't. You won't be able to buy a handgun from an FFL if you are under 21 as I'm sure you know. In most states you can possess and buy a handgun from a private individual if you are 18 but check your state laws.

First gun? Get the GL19.

Its size is perfect all around/everything use.

i have to be 21 in my state (oklahoma) to own a handgun.

so are you saying i can go to a gun show and purchase a g19 and they wont do a background check?

somebody can correct me if im wrong im from OK too but if they sell to you and your not 21 and its required by state then both parties are indeed breaking the law.

A private individual selling a gun does not have to do a background check to sell a gun. FFl dealers do. If you purchase a handgun from an individual you will not have to do a background check but you still have to be of legal age to own it. If the law requires you to be 21 to possess a handgun and you buy it underage you could get yourself and the other guy in a lot of trouble.

Please do not try to illegally buy a handgun at a gun show!

If you live in Kansas, you only have to be 18.

matttx
08-23-2008, 19:41
no im not trying to purchase illegally. why do you think i havent bought one yet?

i plan on buying towards the end of this year. since i dont turn 21 till november anyways.

@get_zwole do you know of any gun ranges besides H&H gun range around here?

Get a 19 then down the road get the 26 if your wanting something smaller IF you carry. Not that you can't carry the 19 just fine. Get the 19 and many 15 round mags. before you can't buy the mags. again!

matttx

im def leaning more towards the g19 now but i really like the smaller g26 with a bigger mag and the extended grip addon... decisions decisions!

renting and shooting both is never a bad idea. however, based on your above statement, i would definitely suggest the g19. in my opinion, it is the better overall pistol (if not the best made by glock). if you like the g26, you can always get one later

tri city gun club in midwest city, Theres a outdoore right outside of elreno pretty good for rifle's 100yrd range 50 pistol i believe.

I go to H&H for handgun and el reno before deer season to check my scopes. Theres a public outdoor in lexington as well thats a little more free can shoot skeet out there etc. happy shooting be safe.

If you can carry the bigger gun then get the 19. Otherwise the G26 is still top notch from what I hear. The XD9 is even bigger than the 19 because of the larger grip. I wanted to buy a Glock for my first gun but got persuaded into buying an XD9, never could carry it and had problems (see my post here http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=912594 if it helps any).

Finally did get that 19, but now I even like the G23 better. But that's another story entirely.

:agree: For a first gun you can't go wrong with a G19. It truly is a gun that can cover all possible needs of a pistol.

Since you're not looking for concealed carry the 19 with longer barrel and grip will be more accurate. I'm not an expert in fact I'm new to handguns but have been shooting my 17,19,26 every week since buying them. I love the grip/ergos of the 19 and 17. I don't like that the pinky goes under the grip on the 26 but thats the trade-off for conceal carry. I do think that for its size and my newness that the 26 is very accurate. I'm always in the 9-10 kill zone at the range from 25 feet. Not exactly shooting "4inch" groups but I'm working on it.
Also the 19 makes a pretty good conceal carry gun. I'll be carrying it in the colder weather.
My Glock combat/sport holster holds all 3.
You don't mention the 17, why not?
It comes with 17 capacity magazines and has a longer barrel & grip. Its VERY comfortable in my average size hand and I love to shoot it.
I also believe that the 9mm with Speer Gold Dot 124 grain has plenty of stopping power. WWB 100 rounds for target practice is $20 at Walmart. Much cheaper than shooting .40 or .45

I would say get the 19 as well. I have both and bought the 19 first to get comfortable with shooting. Then got the 26 later. I'm glad I did it that way.
