Me and some buddies have some hi powered rifles and would like to take them to an outdoor range to get more accurate and have some fun shooting. Is there any around? Dont mind driving some, but dont want to make a road trip just to shoot.

Im in the Raleigh area.

The Wake County Firearms Education & Training Center (http://www.wakegov.com/firingrange/default.htm) might fit your bill. It's an indoor range, but has lanes up to 100m for rifles.

Also, Sir Walter Gun Club (http://www.sirwaltergunclub.com/) is in Creedmoor, which isn't terribly far away.

Buckhorn Gun Club, on the boarder of Orange and Alamance County, is all outdoor and has a 100-yard area for zeroing. Trigger Time in Carthage (you can google it) has some distance areas, too. The former is a club, and you need to be a member or go with a member, the latter is not a club, but might be pricey. Contact Sir Walter and see if they know how you can access the NG rifle ranges at Butner...I know civvies do go up there, just not sure of the procedure.

Do you mean PUBLIC outdoor ranges? There aren't any in the Triangle area, as far as I know. Your best bet would be to drive down to Fayetteville.

There are a few outdoor ranges within an hour's drive of Raleigh, but they're all private ranges.

"The Range" is in Oxford (about 15 minutes from Sir Walter)...

But is it open to the public for casual plinking/target shooting (aside from matches)? Sorry, but I couldn't find much info on their website.

You'll have to ask them, I don't know. Sorry. :dunno:

I know they run matches almost every weekend. Alot more than most.
