xmas shopping? I just started this week. :wow: Yes I am embarrassed. :whistling: I just feel like I could easily just buy a gift or two every 2 weeks (payday) and not have to worry about the crowds, the hassel yet have the time to get some thoughtful gifts as opposed to just finding random stuff in Nov/Dec.

I should also mention that my daughters Bday is also in December, my woman's bday in Sept. and our anniversary in Oct. so that usually hits my wallet as well, and yet another reason I start xmas shopping early. :wavey:

We budget so much a month for gifts, and buy a few gifts every month.

That way we don't have to run up a credit card bill that we'll have to pay back with interest for the rest of the year.

BTW - my wife was done this week of last year for LAST Christmas. We were in Disney and she took an afternoon off to go to Epcot and bot about 4 billion dollars worth of stuff for our girls. She was preggers at the time and due right before X-mas so it was a WISE move.

I think she does have SOME stuff for the kids already. I'm still working on her B-day in 2 weeks. EEK!

We start with the after Christmas sales. We pick things up for the kids all year, usualy on sale. That way we only need to do a bit of shopping in december and we dont need to put it all on credit cards. We wanted to enjoy the Christmas season so when we got married we decided not to play the mall game in december.

We put back a set amount per month for Christmas gifts and my wife buys things as she finds them all year round. We just have to be careful or my niece will end up with fifty gifts because my wife constantly sees things that she would love.

I start Christmas shopping on 12/26. I just keep an eye out all year for things I think various people will like. I am always at Walmart in the early morning hours on Christmas Eve because I have forgotten something (batteries, tape to finish wrapping, various little stuff).

I'll do some shopping the weekend of Thanksgiving because I'm usually visiting a relative then. I'll buy their kids' presents then so I don't need to ship them later on - yep, cheap bastard here.

If I see something in August that I know the kids will like, I'll even pick it up then. I bought some baseball bases last year because I didn't think they'd be on the shelves in December.

I know people who start seriously shopping in June, they spend 3-4 months browsing ads, running from store to store, trying to get this and that. Every person I know that does this, every single year, without fail, STILL ends up doing some "last minute" shopping in late December.

Me? I figure out what I want to get everyone, I take 1-2 hours 1 day and go grab it all. Yes, there are more people, but at least I don't spend months plotting and stressing and running around.

I usually end up doing some last minute shopping, but it's not stressful to me to come across something on clearance that I know someone on my list would like and buy it then.

The ones I save for last are the ones I don't know terribly well, want to give perishable items, or who buy themselves everything they want. There's usually some sort of Secret Santa thing, too.

One thing I won't be doing is getting gift cards early. Two of the places I picked last year went out of business before the recipients could use theirs...

I don't Christmas shop.

I write checks to my kids and nieces/nephews. Two years ago one of my sisters got so incensed that I and another sister wrote paltry checks to her grandchildren that she didn't invite us to participate in her Christmas activities last year. That saved me $100. I hope it made her as happy.

It's sad, really, to see the desperate lengths people of few means go to in their efforts to get "something" for everyone they know. My sister-in-law is the one of whom I speak. I don't give her stuff, and I never have, and I always tell her not to give me anything. Every year, though, some incredibly cheap and highly symbolic package under the tree has my name on it.

I travel a lot (4 countries and 20 states so far this year), so I always look for stuff then. I usually have to ship stuff out before Thanksgiving, so I'm all done by then.
