I am watching this on the "Travel" channel.....awesome coater madness, they are in Sandusky, Ohios' Cedar Point, now, been there many times, and it is the coaster capitol of the amusement parks for large, fast coasters .

Millenium Force was absolutely terrifying, for me, by the time we got to get on, it was dark, yikes, 310 feet of fear-inducing drops, turns, and flips.

The first time I rode it, me and the ball-n-chain, er, the wife, got in the number one car, I never do this, because, well, I AM TERRIFIED...

The cars don't look it, but they seat you above the actual machinery and strap you in with what seems to be flimsy belt ( secure, but it gives you the feeling that it is minimal, at best ).

The travel up to the first drop, is FAST, no time to think, only to look out at the Lake Erie dropping away from you, then, OVER THE TOP YOU GO....nearly 90 degree , I think it is like, 80 degrees of angle, into a drop taking you up to 94 mph, directly into a tunnel, complete darkness, out to an invert, and a second high drop, with a sloping, sweeping turn-over, the rest is just as mind-numbing, in all, one of the best rides ever devised.

There are other, nearly as good coasters at the Point, like The Raptor, a hang-below type ride that loops-the-loop imediately after the first drop, very cool.

We rode almost all of them, any one else like these dreadful things ?

I have a love/hate/scared-of thing with them, but you are never more alive, than when you feel you are about to die.....

Let's hear about 'em....'tis the season.

I am out ( of me mind for doing it...)

I hate roller coasters, but I love to fly. Weird huh?

I have a keychain with a photo of me riding the mantis.

I love 'em. I haven't gotten to experience a whole lot of them, but my favorite is the Titan at Six Flags Over Texas. Toward the end there is a nice, tight spiral where the car is almost horizontal. You can literally feel the blood drain from your eyes as you go through it.

My mother-in-law works for Frito-Lay and every year for their company picnic they rent out the whole park. Last year I think I rode the Titan 7 times in a row.

The Raptor at Cedar Point is the most amazing roller coaster in the world.

I've always loved scary rides. My only complaint along with the cost of some rides, is that they don't last long enough. Takes you sometimes hours of waiting for a 60 second thrill.

Out of curiosity I decided to check out a roller coaster, we had to wait a bit since it was being adjusted. After it was finished, the first passengers were the workmen themselves (talk about job confidence:supergrin:). After the workmen had their fun, it was our turn. When my first ride ended, I swore it would be my last, but as the coaster stopped the manager announced that since we were patient enough to wait in line he would throw in a couple more rides. I was saying "no, no" but I was the lone minority, everybody was saying "yes, yes". So around we went not two, but three times. After this, I wobbled off the platform swearing never to go near a rollercoaster again....

I enjoyed roller coasters until I became an instructor pilot.

I took my kids to one of the parks about a year after I started in with teaching kids how not to kill me in Army helicopters and I was completely disappointed in the coaster because it just didn't do anything for me any more. Thought it was a fluke and went to another park about a year later. Same thing. Bummer. My pilots do all that to me and more and neither of us knows for sure if we're going to survive it, what fun is a coaster that a million people a day walk away after? :animlol:

How can you not mention the Dragster!!!! Worst wait/ride (1-1.5 hour wait/30ish second ride) ratio ever, but sooooooo worth it. Launch you to 120 MPH then straight up 400 something feet!!!!! It was a rush.

http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/coasters/top_thrill_dragster/index.cfm

As a bonus, the first time we rode it we didn't make it over the top and came back down backward. You were given the option to get off after that. Several did. We stayed on. They made a few adjustments and sent us again. Sweet!!!!!!

Yeah I saw that show too. If you get the chance you have to try out the rides on top of Startosphere in Vegas. Great stuff and the wind up there adds to the thrill.

I much prefer looping and rolling coasters to the big drops and huge airtime. I still like Viper it Magic Mt. and Great Bear at Hershey Park.

That's the big hope of LOTS of coaster freaks - to not have enough juice to get all the way up. A client of mine (who is 65 with a pacemaker) rode it several times before that did that. He said it was better than the ride itself.

I'll pass. I'm 25 years younger, strong heart, and I'm just fine here on the ground, thanks.

The Griffon at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg is my favorite. 8 across seating, 3 rows, stacked so everyone is essentially in the front row. And the 2 on each end hang out off the track.

The first hill holds you for 5 seconds hangin out over the edge before dropping you at 85 degrees. Yee har!

Yeah, actually the same thing happens to me when I go on a date.

They are in the process of building an ever bigger coaster there. Cedar Fair, the parent company that owns Cedar Point, bought Kings Island a couple of years ago and is starting to pump some serious money into the place.

Years ago I worked at Great America as a ride operator. I was in charge of their biggest, bestest, coaster at the time. Every morning we got to try it out to test it. We would come in early and hit the button and just let it go - over and over again. At this time the seat restraints were operated by a foot pedal that someone in the station had to step on. If no one wanted to stay behind to do this.... we just rode it with the safety harnesses up and said a couple extra prayers. I think my personal record was 27 consecutive times - sans safety gear.

I haven't met a roller coaster yet that i don't absolutely love. The higher the drop, the more loops and twists the better.

The last time I rode one was on a slow day at Carowinds and I got to ride it ride it four times in a row and I wanted to keep going but they wouldn't let me ride it anymore.

When I was a little kid, the big one around these parts with the loops and twirls and all that jazz scared the hell out of me... until I actually rode on it.

I must have done it 20 times that day after I took the leap.

Loved the show.

I was on the inside rollercoaster at the West Edmonton Mall. I don't remember a straight part of that coaster at all. It was nothing but loops, twists, and turns. 15 minutes after I got off seemed like my inner ear was still spinning. That's my favorite so far. Fantastic mall, by the way.

When I was there around 2001 they had a bungy jump at the deep end of the huge indoor swimming pool. Didn't get to try it though.

I've never, ever, been on a roller coaster.

I did go on a loop coaster once. Liked it just fine. I hate the long wait for 15 seconds of ride.

Rode that monster 65 times in one day!! By the end of the night the employees were saving us "special seats" for the big numbers...50, 60, etc.

Great fun.

I think I saw the same show on the Travel channel. Did you see the one at Hershey park that is a 97 degree drop? It looks like an upside down teardrop that drops you semi-inverted. Very cool stuff.

27 times? I would have died of fright. And me scared of heights as well...

Yes, some of you DO love these terrors as much as I do.....

Jpa, I did see that one in Hershey...awesome at 97 degrees of drop, wow, looked extreme.....

I was at Kings Island only once, Mantis, I think it was, damned good ride....fun as all get-out....they have some good coasters there....

Did ride the Beast, fine wooden coaster, indeed, damned scary dropping into the tunnel....and then the second stage is as good or better than the first stage of that ride, very cool...

MagG22, THAT looks like one scary drop there, man....that is terror incarnate, just peeking over the edge, yikes....good picture of it, pal, thanks....what is it, where is it, I don't recognize that one yet.

As Tom Petty says..." the waiting , is the hardest part..." , I hate to wait, but if you don't try to get on the most recent new rides, the wait is bearable...we waited for that one ride for at least 2 hours in 98 + heat, never again, that sucked big time, but the ride was like I said, very cool....

Most of the less recent were in the 15 minute to 1/2 hour wait....and were great rides to boot....

That ride indoors at that mall looks like a fantastic looper...I must try it, if I ever get there....

I am out, and up, and over, and inside-out ( urp...)
