View Full Version : Who in your opinion has the MOST RELEVANT news coverage?

Off all the broadcasters in the US and worldwide, who in your opinion offers the most relevant news coverage. In other words, when you watch the news (national, not local), who do you watch?

I personally am a CNN junkie. I ****ing love it for some reason. Don't ask me why.

I probably most dislike Fox, but I do occasionally tune in when they try to make themselves - "Fair and Balanced".

Communist News Network?

Sorry, but I can't stand how they foam at the mouth over Democrats and paint everyone else as idiots. To me, they are the most condescending bunch I have ever seen.

I'd say the next worse network is NBC in all of their iterations.

Foxnews discusses things liberals wont, but its the tabloid low brow style presentation that turns me off a lot. They over sensationalize.
I hit both Fox and CNN if I want "fair and balanced"

Certainly NBC, CBS and ABC are the ones I love to hate. And CBS is at the bottom of the list.

Of course, I only know that because I watch them every once in awhile.

I get my local news from AM radio. If I watch the national news, it's FOX.

CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, and MSNBC are far too biased to the left for my stomach.

BBC - They seem to be about as close to objective as one can expect from a major media outlet. None of the liberal bias of CNN and the major networks, none of the tabloid, blowhard presentation of FOX News.

The media is terrible across the board, any way you slice it.

I'm not saying I could ever do any better than they are, mind you, but there is so much subjectivity in all of it.

You can see subjectivity in what they report, how they choose to report it, the pictures they choose, the phrases they use...

One popular trend lately is to dig up some "man on the street" - it can be any idiot - to make some completely absurd and unfounded claim, which the reporter then allows to hang out in space. It's not researched, it's not supported, it's often false, but since it's "public opinion", it's somehow okay and gets thrown in there just like everyhing else.

Another thing that frustrates me is "experts say". "Experts say that eating six cans of dog food per day can prevent heart disease!" Who are these experts, where did they say this, and what makes them experts?

I aggregate news from as many sources as I possibly can, and do my best to glean a vague sense of what happened from amidst the mess.

I am a Dittohead. My kids were Rushbabies and one of them was on the detail that guarded Rush in Afganistan.

Watched Uncle Walt every day until I found out he was lying straight faced about Vietnam. Started to find out all the major networks were doing the same thing. The networks give us people like perky Katie or Charlie the shill. I trust Fox more than the others, but they still bear watching.

Glock Talk is great for "Critical Thinkers". I can't speak for the American public, or at least I couldn't do it with any credibility, but in Canada, the worse my local media make a situation sound, the more afraid people become. It's actually pretty sad to see work.....and it always ****ing works.

It's no different here. Shortly before the 1994 AWB expired, CNN's Wolf Blitzer said automatic weapons would be legal after the expiration

Even as a republican, Fox News bugs me so bad. So bad. They are not well researched and their bias is completely clear. It's like listening to Rush (which I cannot do either). Likewise, Lou Dobbs pisses me off in ways that I cannot describe.

I try to take my news from financial news sources. In general, they are generous in identifying their balance and trying to be balanced as a starting point. WSJ and Financial Times every morning, and CNBC or Bloomberg during the day. While bias, Larry Cudlow identifies it and I think the guy is absolutely brilliant.

I can't really get into any of the tv news channels for political news, too much spaff for me, but the interwebs allows me to grab lots of information from a wide array of sources and let me form my own conclusions rather than being straight fed what others think I should think.

And HerrGlock.com adds a lot that would never make the 'regular' news front, second and third pages. I don't know what I'd do if he ever decided to go to a subscription based model :)

That and four days of full coverage for her every time a celeb gets a parking ticket.

Also, I'll say that Fox News follows the tabloid commentary style of not being well researched...which is trademark Rupert Murdoch. I almost canceled my WSJ subscription when Murdoch bought it from the Bancrofts. I have a game I play sometimes.... I'll watch guys who I don't like but I'll see how well researched they are. I'll sit in front of the TV in my office while on a break, and take the things they say and start googling. I'll look up what they are saying and see if I can find fact to substantiate their positions. The two extremes are surprising. Among my two most disliked heads, one is the best I've ever found (even more than my beloved Larry Kudlow), and one is the worst.

Sean Hannity (tied for #1 of my least favorites) is the worst researched talking head I've ever found. He spouts so much opinion like it was fact and you cannot verify half of what he uses to derive his points.

Keith Olbermann (the other guy tied for #1 of my least favorites) is the best researched I've ever found. While I cannot stand the guy, he is damn accurate with his sources, loves to site them, and actually makes it easy for me to play the game becuase he often sites his sources on air and prefers those sources that come from conservative sources.

And Gretta, though she bugs me, is also one of the best researchers I have found.

I like to think for myself. I don't mind digesting opinions, but I want to know if I'm hearing bull****, I want to know. Regardless of the source. I don't mind some bull**** opinions every now and again to help add emotion to the facts. I don't like opinions or false facts parading as good research, though.
