Latitude Model no. PP01L

I put the cd in the tray, started it, jumped through the hoops until it starts formatting the partition.

It has been frozen on 51% for the past 4 hours.

Now what? do I leave it as is until it finishes or what?

At this point I don't know how to wipe the drive.

Seven hours & still @ 51% formatted.

Seven hours & still @ 51% formatted.Formating is "wiping the hard drive", I would cut the power and try again. If it hangs again at the same point then its got bad sectors and can't repair them.

ETA ... When you get to the point that you have to choose between a Quick or Full format pick the quick format.

When the Full format option is used files are removed from the volume that you are formatting and the hard disk is scanned for bad sectors. The scan for bad sectors is responsible for the majority of the time that it takes to format a volume. If you choose the Quick format option, format removes files from the partition, but does not scan the disk for bad sectors.

This may allow you to install Windows but you still have a bad drive.
