I think it's the ambient noise, it's different than what you're accustomed to at home. I have the same problem. Bleh. Beware Owner 08-26-2008, 16:55 ...in a hotel? I'm up in Boston this week for training, haven't had a good nights sleep in 2 days....this sucks....the bed and pillows are comfortable, but just can't get in the zone I guess.... That's because you don't have company. Zell 08-26-2008, 16:56 I guess you could try some Tylenol PM. That may make you sluggish in the morning though, so make sure you get at least 7-8 hours of sleep before you wake up. Sidhe 08-26-2008, 16:57 That's because you don't have company. We have a winner! I took my husband on the last trip that involved a hotel (and it wasn't like he -had- to go along......) When you've got that kind of company there's no place you will find uncomfortable. fabricator 08-26-2008, 17:01 Go to a drug store and get yourself some 25mg benadryl tablets, take two at bedtime and they will zonk you out, benadryl is what they put in tylenol pm as a sleep aid, there is 25mg of it in each tylenol pm. What kind of training class are you attending...:wavey: Crusher47 08-26-2008, 17:24 Thanks, I'll look into the Benadryl. Software class for work. 13bullets 08-26-2008, 17:25 Sleeping? No. I thought it said speeding. If it did, then yes. Batesmotel 08-26-2008, 17:29 Bad neck and back. If I am staying more than one night and not flying I need to bring my own pillows. Highspeedlane 08-26-2008, 17:30 I've never slept well since I moved to this state...:kidding: *ASH* 08-26-2008, 17:47 i have trouble alll the time. i know i will nevertake tylenol pm ever again!!! it gives be terrible case of restless leg syndrome big time. i dunno why but it does. fabricator 08-26-2008, 18:03 i have trouble alll the time. i know i will nevertake tylenol pm ever again!!! it gives be terrible case of restless leg syndrome big time. i dunno why but it does. Unless you have aches and pains there is no reason to expose yourself to tylenol, benadryl is the sleep aid in tylenol pm, the sleep aid in benadryl is diphenhydramine and that may have caused you RLS. wolfy692005 08-26-2008, 18:21 Unless you have aches and pains there is no reason to expose yourself to tylenol, benadryl is the sleep aid in tylenol pm, the sleep aid in benadryl is diphenhydramine and that may have caused you RLS. i never have slept well ever.. i didn't sleep a whole night until i was 10 ( according to mom), any how still have major issues.. take 2 ambien(perscribed by doc), 2 benadryl every night, even a shot of niquil every once in a while.. still might sleep 6 hours of restless sleep.. even if i am stone cold drunk (sleep better) but wide awake in 6 or so hours... *ASH* 08-26-2008, 18:26 doc gave me trazadone , non addicting and helps me rest alot better now. jeager 08-26-2008, 18:29 All that tech talk is probably getting you wired because you like the stuff. Not adhering to the routine you're used-to can also contribute to the problem; wrong tv show, good book, or spousal "massage." Try to replicate you "sleep-hygeine" routine at home. Set the fan on low for some decent "white noise" take the benadryl and/or a few slices of low-sodium turkey, (l-tryptophan). My latest desperate move is to do the meditation BUT lying on my back as found on FHU.com I can be totally re-charged in 45 minutes! NashvilleGlock 08-26-2008, 18:45 doc gave me trazadone , non addicting and helps me rest alot better now. You know what Trazodone is? I had a Dr. try and prescribe that to me and I told him no way. I don't mess with anti depressants, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Zolpidem is what I ended up with. I take it when I need too and thus far I've noticed no side effects. It's Generic Ambien and is MUCH cheaper. I pop one whenever I do a shift change, need to sleep odd hours, or just need a really good sleep. This past month I took it about 14 times. I've been on it for about a year and never noticed any addiction or problems. At first I took it every night, but after about a month I started not taking it as much. I didn't notice any withdrawl or problems sleeping. From the extensive reading I've done the people that have addiction problems are the ones using it for recreational use. All I know is I wake up after about 6-7 hours with no drowsiness and I feel like I did when I was a kid, refreshed and like the world is my oyster :wavey: Sorry for the novel here but this is by far the best thing I've ever taken to get some sleep. Benedryl makes me feel tired for the entire next day, same as most OTC medicine. About 15 minutes after I take it I'm OUT. However when the pager goes off for the FD I can get right up and am not drowsy. The Generic is not time released so it's out of your system in about 2 hours, it's just really good at knocking you out. Gluck.. NashvilleGlock 08-26-2008, 18:47 doc gave me trazadone , non addicting and helps me rest alot better now. Dr Quote Some cases of withdrawal effects were seen with Trazadone even when tapered, so very slow tapering is advised for this drug. The problems you’re experiencing are the right ones (withdrawal effects I mean). Trazadone can cause both physical and psychological symptoms. Psychological include: agitation, crying spells, irritability, overactivity, aggression, memory problems, confusion, lowered mood, etc and physical may range from gastrointestinal to flu-like, sleeping disorders including both insomnia and possibly night mares or vivid dreams, sensory problems and motor disorders like tremor, loss of balance, muscle stiffness, and abnormal movements. Not my cup of tea... Dalton Wayne 08-26-2008, 18:48 I sleep better in motels then I do at home, go figure Sidhe 08-26-2008, 19:06  When you've got that kind of company there's no place you will find uncomfortable. *big cheesy grin* Not so much when the rugrats are in tow as well though. Bad neck and back. If I am staying more than one night and not flying I need to bring my own pillows. I -always- bring my own pillows. I've got a good nose, and I can't sleep on someone else's pillows (and hotel linens, if clean, reek of bleach smell. Not a bad thing, at least you know they attempted to kill everything in the sheets, but not good when you're trying to sleep). Metatron 08-26-2008, 19:36 I have trouble sleeping in hotels too. I find a nice travel bottle of brandy helps. Beware Owner 08-26-2008, 19:42 *big cheesy grin* Not so much when the rugrats are in tow as well though. In that case, children's Benadryl. :whistling: Sidhe 08-26-2008, 19:45 In that case, children's Benadryl. :whistling: Naw.... just turn up the A/C full-blast, they won't hear a thing. GlockRadio 08-26-2008, 19:48 Come hook up with us "Locals" (http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/index.php) we'll tire you out! :tongueout: BadAndy 08-26-2008, 20:09 Melatonin works best for me. I also sleep better when out of town for work because my wife is a freaking bed and covers hog. She wraps herself with two comforters and leaves me nothing......until she gets to a couple thousand degrees then she rolls around trying to cool off until my alarm goes off. Dan0076 08-26-2008, 20:58 I travel a bunch for work. I'm in a hotel anywhere from one to four nights a week (have done two week stints during installs). I almost always go to bed around midnight. Then it takes me a bit to fall asleep. I tell my wife that I find it hard to motivate myself to go to bed. I'm board and lonely. I'm usually surfing the net reading GT, other gun boards and the news. The TV is always on as soon as I get in the room for noise. I've recently started running again in hopes being a bit healthier will help. I'm going to start utilizing the exercise rooms at the hotels too. Maybe that will help. TenMillimeter 08-26-2008, 21:01 I sleep okay, albeit very lightly, since I'm usually in both unfamiliar territory and often in areas where I'm worried about my vehicle in the parking lot. Someone once suggested Melatonin to me. I tried it, but the blue flashes behind my eyelids, jitteryness and the general feeling of being wired reminded me way too much of my much younger years and trying to go to sleep after a long night of indulgence. I laid there for probably 2-3 hours, as if I had slammed 4 cups of coffee, before I finally fell asleep. However, and I don't mean to hijack the thread....but, I swear motels have a weird effect on my digestive system. The minute I step in the woods to shoot, hike, fish or camp, I have to take a dump. I almost put TP ahead of water on my list of survival items, to be carried in every pack and every vehicle at all times. Put me in a motel for a week and I drop 2 rabbit pellets on the 3rd or 4th day after nearly busting a hernia to do so. Can anyone explain this phenomenon? Why in the hell do motels lock me up? TheeBadOne 08-26-2008, 21:02 Anyone else have trouble sleeping.... With who? :headscratch: :tbo: WayaX 08-26-2008, 21:06 I can konk out pretty much anywhere. Granted I'm a very light sleeper, and I fight insomnia off and on. That being said though, when I do feel like sleeping, the location, noises, and lights don't make a damn bit of difference. Platz 08-26-2008, 21:22 I sleep like a rock in hotels. I think because I'm usually traveling from point A to point B, and exhausted by the time I finally get to bed. I also like the sound of the heat/AC unit. At home on the other hand.....there will be weeks that I sleep great and others that I spend half the night restless. MarksGlock22 08-26-2008, 21:25 I actually sleep better in a hotel than I do at home. Crusher47 08-26-2008, 22:38 Melatonin works best for me. I also sleep better when out of town for work because my wife is a freaking bed and covers hog. She wraps herself with two comforters and leaves me nothing......until she gets to a couple thousand degrees then she rolls around trying to cool off until my alarm goes off. My wife is the same way, we share a Queen size bed, she is half my size, but takes up 2/3 of the bed and all the covers. I always wake up hanging half off the bed, it's a wonder I don't fall off. In a hotel, I have a whole King size bed to myself and can't sleep. Go figure. Also at home, I'm usually asleep 5-10 minutes tops....here, it's at least 2 hours of tossing and turning.....maybe I should stay up all night, but then I'd probably fall asleep in class....D'oh :faint: MooseJaw 08-26-2008, 23:01 ...in a hotel? More like TWO time zones.. And, you're probably not drinking enough, and going to bed too early.. Quit crusing GlockTalk, and get your butt over to Fanuel Hall.. have some seafood, and lotsa beer.. You'll sleep like a baby.. agentl074 08-26-2008, 23:03 Tylenol PM does the opposite for me - keeps me up. Razoreye 08-26-2008, 23:07 It usually takes me a little bit to get to sleep. You could always order up a hooker and some blow and party until you pass out. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
