View Full Version : Should Glock Talk have a "Adult's Club"? (NOT PORN!!)
I was thinking with the whole big deal about no posting bikini pictures and no cursing, due to a "vocal minority," that maybe another "vocal minority" should be catered to as well. I was thinking that opening up an "Adult's Club" or something of that nature, would give the "good ol boys (and gals)" a chance to cut loose a little. It would be password protected and age regulated. NO I do NOT mean a pornographic club, but just somewhere more leaniant where we wouldn't be bound to the "family oriented" rules on the regular forum. Just a place for "dirty jokes" "Racy pictures" and good "not so clean" humored fun...
Racy pictures of women (Or men, for that matter) are no longer allowed here. They were until recently, but the antics of a vocal minority here have compelled me to change this policy. Please do not post or link to such pictures, or use them in avatars or profile pictures.

I said no for two reasons.
I think a leaner board with less sub folders is ideal. And they already have the OAF club for the ligther stuff.
Besides... GT is not a democracy.

if you had just left it at yes, or at least had a simple, "yes" vote, I would have voted yes. I think it would be a great place to annex all the non-family threads/posts without having to ban the posters, but even so, I like the fact the buck stops with one person. This keeps it REAL clear to all on GT. I am not warm to the idea of a "panel."
I thought we already have the OAF.

If they pay. Pic and vid heavy forums should pay otherwise there are plenty of other sites to have that type of forum without consuming GT resources.

Yeah hence I tossed in the "NOT PORN!!!" on the subject line. But I see what you are getting at. I just used to enjoy the discussions with familiar and friendly people that we used to be able to have with a few good jokes and "racey" (not sure how any of them were all that bad anyways) pictures.
Ahh.. the good ol days.

I value Eric's decision to not have a forum like that, but since it was asked, I vote yes anyways. Don't expect it to happen, and won't be disappointed if it doesn't. But just giving my honest answer.
No..I don't want porn or out of hand mindless gutter talk. But some light fun and tasteful adult humor without watching what we say every time would be nice. Most members here are adults, and would like to just chat and have fun the way they do at home. However, as i said..not pushing for it, and don't mind that it isn't allowed. But it is obvious from the way many threads go that there might just be a need for it. Call it an outlet so that the rest of the forums can get back on track :-)

Well put. I guess an "Adult Forum" is ona thin line, where some people think it would be an all out sex and orgy fest, and others, who understand what the intent, is a nice place to kick back a little without walking on eggshells. Like the bowling alley or the "Gentlemen's Club" or the Hunting Cabin...

+1. Eric is King here or, if he wishes, dictator and/or tyrant. The bottom line is that it is his site and he can run it any way he wants. I personally think that is one reason GT is so successful......he can do things on a whim if he wishes, doesn't have to be "fair" about decisions, and doesn't have to explain his actions to anyone.
I'm not dissing him by any means. Just saying that when he thinks "enough is enough", that's it........no debate. Like I said, that's one reason I believe GT is still around.
If such a forum were established, it would go to hell in a handbasket real quick anyways, you know....."give an inch, take a mile".
Anyways, if such a forum were to be created, let me know, I have some great ideas for new threads.
I voted yes. We're all Adult enough to talk about guns, self defense, politics, and many other topics, we're adult enough to handle a layed back area as well.
However I agree... Eric's the boss (and he has a great website :) )

So what's stopping you? Go open one up and do what you want.

On Eric's site, I'd figure Eric's rules, written in plain black and white, with reasons explained (or not!), should be unambiguous enough for us.
I don't see anything productive about posting a poll to see how many of us disagree with the way Eric runs his board.
That's his business, not ours, and for the "paying member" crowd, he's been clear since anyone ever cut a membership check that even if you send him ten thousand smackers, he's going to run the board his way.

The reason that the rules exist is because Eric originally permitted a more PG-13 / R environment, and people started testing the line.
And kept testing the line.
And testing the line.
And arguing about what did and did not constitute porn.
And debating. And complaining. Eating up time, bandwidth, and resources, posting porn and trying to argue it was nothing of the sort.
It's a waste of his time and ours. People can't help themselves, they have to exploit any little bit of latittude they get until it's ruined.
Eventually, if I were Eric and this kind of crap kept up, I'd pack it in and call it quits.
This forum already has far too many sub-forums which are dead or close to it... why not add another? :rofl:
I don't really care. I post in about 3 forums here and don't even look at the rest. I can get by with or without bikini pics, nude pics, whatever. I'm happy with the GT forums I currently browse as they are.

I think a forum with a TOS equivalent to prime-time broadcast television in terms of "adultness" would be nice. It'll never happen here for a variety of reasons, but it would be nice to be able to interact on an adult level with my friends here as a group instead of having to do it one on one by email.

Of course this is Erics forum, of course its not a democracy, I guess some feel the need to state the obvious. I just posted a poll to see where people stand on such. I'm sure Eric will read it and do what he wants with it, probably nothing, beats me. It was just an "experiment" at best. Calm.. cool... eeeasssyy breaths.

I was very careful choose a screen grab that didn't go too far.
Fast Times at Ridgemont High is a classic movie.
One word from Eric and it'll be gone. I may want him to change the rules, but I love GT and will try to be a good guest in Eric's house.

If you saw my paycheck, you'd be contributing to me, LoL. I'm not looking for traction or to get things changed, just wanted to see what people had to say on the matter. I doubt my 80 dollars a year for even the Plat would give me any more or less pull on anything, thats not the point of contribution anyways, or is it?
Edited to add: If there were such a forum (which we know there wont be, heard it over, and over) that maybe being a money paying member would be a pre-req for such? That makes sense.

There are quite a few folks on here who enjoy such pleasures, and I think they should get a forum where they could indulge in such activities without it affecting the overall quality of the site.

any and every mention of any crime or news report related to rapists, child molestation, or sex offenders. these subjects bring out the absolute worst responses from alot of folks every single time and it makes us all look like bloodthirsty vigilantes.
no more political discussions. this one is a premptive measure because we all know that sooner or later somebody is going to mention the big political A word and then we're all hosed.
no more pictures of people's firearms collections either. do you have any idea how it looks to the other side when 1 person posts a pic of his 20 assault weapons and waist high stacks of ammo and loaded mags? i enjoy those pics, but this is about worrying about what other folks think about us as a group right?

A few years ago, a few members found the need to do something similar when they wanted some things changed about GT. They formed their own board, including a soft "porn" forum. When members fought they did not stop the fight; they moved it to a special forum for that kind of crap. I think all profanity was allowed (not positive as it's been a while). The board did not last a year. ;)

Good input, I guess some people need to be controlled, but it sort of makes me sick that a few "vocal minorities" can get the whole forum changed to G rated when it ran as pg-13 for years with no problems side from a few. To me, THOSE are the ones that should have found a new forum, not change to cater to their needs. But.. hey, its life.

If I remember right, one of the last times Eric asked about input (When the paid system was in the works), there was talk of a more "relaxed" forum. A LOT of people said no, they didn't want it.

People always think that most people naturally agree with them. Look, this isn't about a 'Vocal Minority'. This is about long-standing policy here. My policy. I have been running this place for a decade and I know what works here. More importantly, I know what does not work. I know what things cause discord and start trouble. There is damned little I do here that isn't done for some very compelling reasons, based on many long years of experience, whether you are aware of those reasons or not.
People's opinions are always welcome, but I do not run this site by popular vote. If I change the way things are done here, it is not going to be because someone tries to force my hand in this manner. Eric
