Sam Adams Octoberfest
SA is definitely a contender if only the original Boston Lager.
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale can be had by the case at the local Food Lion for not too much.
There is a fairly upscale beer/wine store near here but I'm not really up on craft beers anymore. Any other IPA style opinions?

I like Wernesgruener (Pilsen) from Aldi but the price has gone up two bucks a six in the past year. Ouch.
Grolsch.

OK, but you are paying for the bottle.
If you like a really strong IPA, Dogfish Head 120 minute IPA. I prefer the 60 minute IPA. I don't know if your distibutor has Alaska beer, but Midnight Sun Sockeye Red IPA is my personal favorite. Deschutes Inversion IPA is good as well.

Summit Extra Pale Ale - brewed in St Paul, but I don't know where Grumpyville is

My liquor store has a four-pack of the traditional bottles with the ceramic tops and a six-pack of standard bottles.

Second the Dogfish head. The 120 min IPA is hard to find though and cost around $10 for a 12oz bottle (it is 20% abv). It is with out a doubt the holy grail of IPA's. They also have a 60 and a 90 minute IPA. The 90 is still pretty strong stuff. If you like hops you will love it.

no such thing as too many hops.
Tecate is really good with lime.
:)

you could probably convince them to let you mix and match Natty, Busch, and Pabst....
No joke, Sam Adams makes some good stuff... Oktoberfest, Cherry Wheat, Summer Ale..... the list goes on and on...

Stella Artois.
Don't know India Pale ale from India ink ... but every time I open a Stella I'm reminded how much I like it. (As opposed to drinking beer because it's beer).
OK, but you are paying for the bottle.
I hadn't had a Grolsch in many years. I got the urge to buy some.
My wife came home with a case!
24 beers. . . . . $58.00!:wow:
C'mon on over, Ponti. We'll open a few.

So far the only IPA in the thread.
I would recommend the Dogfish Head 90 minute as well.

Grab a couple slammers of Stone Brewing's Arrogant Bastard Ale. You'll be set for the evening...

+ 2 Blue Moon. Good summer beer
It's probably not the best, but I like Moose Drool.
Big Sky also makes a decent IPA.

May I suggest Stone IPA http://www.stonebrew.com/ipa/ it's good stuff, really hoppy. Arrogant Bastard is also good stuff but it's an ale and like twice the price of the IPA.
+1 for bluemoon and grolsh
Other IPAs to consider: Fishtale Organic IPA (from Olympia, Washington) and Avery IPA (from Colorado).
Stone Brewing Co is good too. Stone Ruination IPA is excellent. Arrogant Bastard is good especially if you find the Oaked version.
Hops rule, budweiser drools.

For affordability and taste, Dogfish Head 90 Minute is the best IPA out there.
If you are willing to spend $80 on a 6 pack, then get Dogfish Head 120 Minute. Otherwise, I'd settle for something a little less expensive :tongueout:
One of my favorite IPAs is 21st Amendment US IPA.
One of my favorite IPAs is 21st Amendment US IPA.
I just bought some this past week. I wasn't too impressed with it. Maybe they need some time to perfect their brewing process. But it is in a can, so it is easy to pack hiking/camping. To each his own.
I don't like dark beer, so ill say Miller Light.... or Bud Light?

My favorite IPA's available around here:
Dogfish 90 minute if it's harcore hop time
Stone IPA
Dogfish 60 minute
Torrey Pines
Moylans once a year special IPA, their regular IPA is so-so
Port Brewing Wipeout IPA
I have enjoyed many fine microbrew IPA's in other areas that aren't distributed around here, so you probubly have some other good choices available wherever you are.

If you like hops, I would go with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Or maybe Harpoon IPA. Just a few off the top of my head. Come on down to the Art Bar in Columbia this weekend and I'll buy you a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. We don't carry the Harpoon IPA anymore.
Sierra Nevada makes a good IPA, if you can find it.
I thoroughly enjoy an ice cold Yeunglin Porter poured into a room temperature (ie not chilled) pint glass. Makes it the perfect temperature everytime.

I recommend taking up home brewing. I just last night had a spectacularly delicious pale ale that I brewed myself.

Harpoon is a very good IPA. Too hoppy for me, but some folks like it hoppy. I work at Art Bar and have for many years. I'm sure you would be able to spot me right away. I would be the Conservative one. I work every Friday night and nearly every Saturday night. Come down and see me sometime and I'll buy you a few beers. We're having a big festival on Sunday celebrating the Summer of '68. Should be lots of fun.

I don't think I can make it on Sunday (going to Wedgestock in Manning) but I will certainly consider coming over to the AB sometime soon.

I've never bought a 6 pack. I always get a 24 pack of whatever is on sale. After 12 or 14 are down the hatch they all taste about the same.

Natural Light?
I second that. I have been drinking that for years and I am drinking it right now. It is cheap and seams to be working pretty well. I don't need the stuff that is thick and taste like cough syrup.

Pontificator, good choice on the Yuengling. The first place we landed when we got back from deployment was BWI. A buddy and I went to drink at the hotel nearby and I had Yuengling for the first time. Nice beer. Otherwise, Sierra Nevada and Rogue both make very good ales.

Sierra Nevada is a great beer. So are the IPA's from Deschutes Brewery and Full Sail, but for an IPA lover (IMO) the Bridgeport cask conditioned IPA takes top honors. It won a gold in Munich and is uber popular here.

Avoid all beers with "Lite", "Light", "Diet", "Ice" "Low Calorie", or "33" on the label.
Sam Adams Boston Lager. The Oktoberfest is good, but I could drink nothing but Sam Adams.
Actually, that's pretty much all I drink when I drink.

Smithwick's is really good. Also 1554.

Funny you should mention that. My wife came home from the grocery last night with a six pack of Sam Adams Boston Lager. I didn't ask for it and she didn't tell me she was buying it. It was a nice surprise and one of the many reasons I love her. I'm thinking some local ribeyes, baked potatos, and a salad will make a great accompaniment to a couple of them tonight. Almost forgot, I have to mow the grass today too. That might kill a couple of them when I'm through.
The only REALLY good beer is Budweiser:supergrin:
What you are saying is you really don't like beer. And that's okay, a buzz is a buzz no matter how you get it.
Budweiser= :puking:

+1 one for Sam Boston Lager.
Also staying with Boston based beers, if you like IPA, Try Harpoons' UFO. Its a heffenweisen (sp?) with is similar to IPA but a little lighter on the hops and heavier on the wheat. I really enjoy it.
A fellow GT'er is in dire need of an education concerning brews. What is an "IPA?" I'm betting "I" stands for "independent" since I recognize none of the beers (other than SA) listed by the cognoscenti, and I'm thinking these smaller brewers are categorized in distinction from the biggies (AB.)
Also, don't hiss and spit, boys, I go for beer based on a bang for the buck basis - meaning the most alcohol for the fewest calories (michelob ultra rules here, tell me otherwise.)
I ended up getting a case of Yuengling Lager (cans) and a sixer of Harpoon IPA. Harpoon's very good. :drink:
Yuengling is one of my favoites. I have a NJ buddy that brings me a case when he is in the area. Didn't they start to brew it in FL?
Harpoon is a local beer for me. A lot of places have it on draught. Yep, I have the Tshirt too

Its all about what you like, and there is no accounting for taste. Some people prefer Budwesier (which is cut with rice syrup in place of more expensive and arguably better tasting malted barley) over "real" beer. Some people prefer Velveeta and other processed cheese-like substances over a magnificent white cheddar from Wisconsin. Go figure...
I have never liked Budweiser. I tend to think they really get that beer from the horses that pull the Bud wagon. At the local Brewer's festivals, the outhouses are marked "Budweiser" over the urinals.
