View Full Version : Any old CJ-5 guys?
I'm a CJ-5 jeeper from TN and wondered how many other CJ-5 guys were on GT. Let's see show of hands. I got a 76' CJ-5 with a 258 I-6, T-150 tranny, Spicer 20 T Case, Dana 30 frontend and AMC 20 rearend. Mostly stock. I'm working on a rear disc brake conversion on a AMC 20 with one piece axles and limited slip diffferential sitting in my garage floor. About to add a centerforce clutch and rebuild the tranny. I also want to start looking at how to add power steering. I f you got one of these or some good advice, let's hear it. I know, Just Empty Every Pocket.

I sold my CJ5 last spring. It was very similar to yours - same year, engine, 3spd, posi rear. I used it for plowing exclusively.
I bought it from the GSA - former military vehicle.
It started dieing on me about 3-4 years ago - got progressively worse. I tried coils, fuel pump, fuel filter, lots of things. Finally I converted the ignition to a GM unit - interesting conversion. The thing started with a touch of the key and ran great after that. I think the whole conversion ran me a little over $100.

CJ5. On 3rd engine, 2nd tranny, still running the Stock dana.
Got the cool garbage disposal in the floor boards (hole rusted through).
3 on the floor, 305 V8.
Good times. But you have to love it, because it's never financially worth it.

I had one for years. Leon Rosser kept it going.

I grew up in one! Now I'm looking for one to raise my boy in.

Looked at 5s and 7s in '83-'84, but the attitude of the salesmen really turned me off. Finally went back in '85 and fell in love with a CJ-8. No frills. 258 ci, Dana 30, Corp.20, 3.31s, 5 speed.
I drove it around for 11 years and thought I'd eventually be buried in it, but when the wife's granddad died she REALLY wanted his car and wouldn't let g'ma just give it to her, so my "impractical" Scrambler went away.
Have since tried to scratch the itch with a '77 Waggy and a brace of '86 Samurai, but I've promised myself that my next will be a V8 CJ-5.

I've got the same one. Except I had to go fiberglass a few years back. Several people are wanting it and it might be sold (if he shows up with some money) (my daughter and her friend are having a fit, because she wants it)
What happened to Leon Rosser? I tried to find them a while back and no luck........got quite a bit of stuff from them in the past.
