View Full Version : Hello from N.E. Ohio
Hello everyone, I recently purchased my first Glock about a week ago. I'm hoping to learn as much about them as I possibly can, and look forward to sharing information with all of you in the future. I picked up a G23 about a week ago at a local shop. It's used but had a few extras that really sold me on it. I have not yet had the opportunity to get any range time with, but from what I've heard they are very fine functioning weapons right out of the box. Anyone know how to tell which generation/how old the pistol is? Possibly be the serial number?
And welcome to you!:wavey:
Great choice on a pistol, G23 is one of the finest fighting pistols ever made. I'm carryin' one right now!
Used Glocks are some of the best "bang for the buck" out there! Good choice.
As far as generation goes, you can post the letter prefix of your serial number and we can tell you when it was made and what gen it is.
Look at the side of your pistol, above the trigger. Do you see 1 or 2 pins? And does your grip have finger grooves? Light rail up front? These details will help us determine the gen for you.
if you can post a pic of it people will be glad to see yet ANOTHER glock pic on this forum and also be able to tell you what Gen it is.
what extras did it have? extended slide release? magazines? holster? night sights?
congrats on your purchase

Hello! :wavey:
Congratulations on the G23.
Look here: http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=412093
This thread shows each of the 3 generations. Your G23 will be either a 2nd or 3rd gen. If it's got finger grooves, it's a gen. 3. If not, gen. 2.
You can also look up your serial number, or the closest serial number, in that thread. If you want to know the month and year of manufacture, and it's not listed in the Serial Number Research Project, call GLOCK, Inc. at 770-432-1202. Then add it to the list.
can't have too many pics! Welcome to GT, and enjoy your new Glock.
Congrats! I too have owned a G23 since 2003 and have had "0" problems with it.

Welcome to the board.
Don't have a G23 yet, be careful heard those things blow up.
Just kidding calm down.
Thanks to all of you who replied. The letter prefix in the serial number is GXZ. It does have the light rail, and the finger grooved grips. As for the extras that I got with it: There was a LaserMax guide rod laser installed in it, a fobus paddle holster with adjustable cant, cleaning kit, and 200 rounds of ammunition.
