El Dorado Some say it doesn't measure up to Rio Bravo. I disagree. Robert Mitchum and the Duke chewing scenery make up for everything.
I see the two films, along with Rio Lobo, as being incredibly similar. The reason I like Rio Lobo is because I'm an aspiring writer and it has a professional writer in it by the name of George Plimpton - he plays one of the bad guys who gets killed when they try to take the girl... He only wrote about stuff he experienced first hand and was writing a book on movie-making at the time.
I like El Dorado because of the gunshop scene where 'Alan Bourdillion Traherne' a.k.a. 'Mississippi' buys his seriously sawed-off shotgun/pistol w/holster...
But I like 'Rio Bravo' Because the Duke (with director Howard Hawkes) made it in response to the western with the lib-agenda, 'High Noon'...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Noon
Upon its release, the film was criticized by many filmgoers, as it did not contain such expected western archetypes as chases, violence, action, and picture postcard scenery. Rather, it presented emotional and moralistic dialogue throughout most of the film. Only in the last few minutes were there action scenes.[3]
John Wayne strongly disliked the film because he felt it was an allegory for blacklisting, which he and his best friend Ward Bond had actively supported. In his Playboy interview from May 1971, Wayne stated he considered High Noon "the most un-American thing I’ve ever seen in my whole life"[4] and went on to say he would never regret having helped blacklist liberal screenwriter Carl Foreman from Hollywood. He later teamed up with director Howard Hawks to make Rio Bravo as a conservative response.

Fight Club ------------------------(Brad Pitt can kiss my butt, but Edward Norton is great)
Lawrence Of Arabia ---------------(movies based on real history are always the best)
Doctor Shivago -------------------(No, not because Omar Sharif is in it. It's just a good story)
Stalag 17
The Great Escape
Aliens -----------------------------(only if it's the extended directors cut)
Angel Heart -----------------------(Micky Rourke sure looked different back then)
The Big Lebowski ------------------(the best of John Goodman's funny work)
Ben Hur ---------------------------(had to mention one with an NRA member in it)
Angela's Ashes --------------------(to remind me that life is always even tougher for someone else)
Hotel Rawanda --------------------(a true story of recent genocide that everyone should know about)
The Guns Of Navarone -------------(in memory of the guys who won WW2 for all of us)
Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman ---(my favorite movie of all time)
Hart's War ------------------------(mainly because they shoot Bruce Willis in the head at the end, but there's the racist history of the US Army in it too)
Forbidden Planet -------------------(the grand daddy prototype of all Sci-Fi movies)
Gandhi ----------------------------(because it's literally true that "an eye for an eye" will only end when the whole world is blind)
and last but not least
*****FULL METAL JACKET*****
Starring our own Glock man - R. Lee Ermey - at his best.
And not even acting either. Just being himself.

Hot Fuzz....
If I keep reading this thread my list is going to get way too big.

I just re-watched XMen 3 because it was on TV, and I didn't know he was in that. Just his voice though, and being the head of a military unit as well.

Mother Jugs & Speed
Excellent choice. Raquel Welch circa 1976 just about stopped this 17 year old's heart.
A LOT of great movies listed here. The only one I can think of that has been missed is Blue Thunder.
The scene where Roy Scheider takes out the F-16 never gets old.

300 the ultimate man movie
With a close second going to Miami Vice....
Guns, beautiful women, fast boats, faster cars, shoot-outs.
Some of the shooting scenes are simply amazing.
Most anything with Edward Norton. He's the reason I liked Fight Club too as mentioned by another. The 25th Hour and American History X. I feel he's under rated.
Blackhawk Down (read the book if you haven't)
Payback with Mel Gibson
Silverado, Tombstone, Wyatt Earp
Training Day, Man on Fire. (Mr. Washington is very versatile)
Ferris Bueller (all time classic)
Blood In Blood Out.
Life as a House (try it)
Set it Off
Goodfellas
Some of the animated ones are great too.
The Incredibles
Toy Story (speaking of R. Lee)
Monsters Inc.
Spirit
I imagine this thread will go on. There are some great ideas of flicks for me to see. Thanks OP.
