IMO, they feel better, they point better, their rust resistance is better - the only Glock I ever heard of having any rust :wow: on it was a 3rd gen model. Ain't that right, J.P.? YMMV. Well...sort of. I certainly trust the pre- *1 G 19s a lot more than the ones with the barrel redesign.(with certain exception) Hand cycling rounds through one will often give you an indicator of how high up the feedramp rounds are hitting. The ones that hit halfway up and higher I trust....any lower...eh...not as much. I've seen both 2nd and 3rd Gen Glocks rust. The infamous "chamber rusting" incident you are thinking of was actually a 2nd Gen model G17 IIRC....which was really perplexing. Although the two following rusty Glocks were 3rd Gen, including the pitted G23. As far as 2nd vs. 3rd Gen "feel" goes, I like the 2nd ged fullsize models but prefer 3rd gen compacts. I don't like the half-moon cutout on the 2nd gen compacts because my pinky finger rides right on top of it.....with the 3rd gens, I'm able to get all fingers on the grip above the end flare. YMMV here is one of mine. "LExxx" Serial number. The other is a "BMxxx" serial number. I did not fire it from late 1995 until this summer....many reasons, but now I am back into it. By the way, before I went to the range I cleaned the gun and it fired 200 rounds perfectly. I have only put about a 1000 rounds through the gun and it looks brand new. Anyway, there is a lot of discussion about 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation G19s in this thread. I think my G19 is a second generation based on when I purchased it and it has two pins not three. The first 2 letters of the serial number are BG. Can anyone confirm it is a 2nd generation and also what are the major differences between each generation. Thanks! Tip GMAN40 09-13-2008, 06:04 Glocks are very durable BUT! Can anyone confirm it is a 2nd generation and also what are the major differences between each generation. Thanks! Tip The noticeable difference between the generations, is the grip and dust cover. 1st Generation Glocks: Pebble textured grip, no checkering on front or backstrap, no light rail. 2nd Generation Glocks: Textured and checkered grip, no light rail. 2.5 Generation Glocks: Finger grooved/checkered grip, no light rail. 3rd Generation Glocks: Finger grooved/checkered grip, light rail. Then, of course, somewhere between the 2nd gen and 3rd gen full size and compact Glocks, the "Baby Glocks" were born. The first series of those lil' guys, had the finger grooved frame, but lacked the checkering on the frontstrap. Soon later, Glock put the checkering on them. I'm not sure when. :dunno: Since I've never owned a 9mm Glock at all, I can't honestly tell you when they added the 3rd pin. What? Me worry? 09-13-2008, 10:20 The only Glocks I have ever seen with rust were 2nd generation. I've owned about the equal amount of 2nd and 3rd gen Glocks (even owned a 2.5 gen Glock 21 for a while) and I personally have NEVER had a rust issue. My 2nd gen Glock 22 has seen many, MANY sweaty days in it's lifetime (damned Oklahoma heat/humidity) and has NEVER had a speck of rust on it. I haven't personally seen/held a rusty Glock in my own two hands. But I have seen them within the pages of various firearm publications, and they were always 3rd gen models. reewik 09-13-2008, 14:35 It is a three pin, just not real good photography. Like I said I had not fired it for 13 years until recently. It was in a controled environment, not a bit of rust or anything else and it still works perfectly. What is the difference between 2 and 3 pins between 2nd and third generation? D-GLOCK17 09-13-2008, 20:56 WOW! That 26 you have looks sooo much like a 27! The only difference in the lower receiver is the ejector, and that is not part of the frame. It works, and that I'm sure of. they all have 3 - PINS now :whistling: ScaryWoody 09-18-2008, 21:14 My EDC Glock 19 http://i35.tinypic.com/2hd3akk.jpg paulgl26 09-18-2008, 21:57 i am playing to this is my sec gen 19 http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/8430/picture007tp0.th.jpg (http://img169.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture007tp0.jpg) http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/9746/picture019ci7.th.jpg (http://img390.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture019ci7.jpg) http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/8291/picture020ct8.th.jpg (http://img390.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture020ct8.jpg) http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/8797/picture018fg0.th.jpg (http://img390.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture018fg0.jpg) legion3 09-19-2008, 06:15 Here are some 2nd gen Glocks :whistling: http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x49/roman3/sweden1.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x49/roman3/sweden4.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x49/roman3/sweden3.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x49/roman3/2e240h2.jpg legion3 09-19-2008, 06:17 A few of mine too: http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x49/roman3/glocks007.jpg I like the 2nd gen 19's...3rd gen is the wife's. Can anyone confirm it is a 2nd generation.... Yup, it's a third gen......what is the third letter of the serial number prefix? The early Glocks had a two digit prefix, but they were into the three digit prefixes by 1992. What is the difference between 2 and 3 pins between 2nd and third generation? The 2 pin/3 pin thing has nothing to do with the different generations. All 9mm Glocks except the G26 had only two pins until well after the third generation frames came out. Third gen frames first showed up late in 1997, and the switch to all three pin frames was made in early 2002....apparently for simple ease of manufacture reasons.....why make two different frames when one does everything? :patriot: NYS Ret.5763 10-31-2008, 10:30 Hey Trooper Brian..."could you spare a G19 mag or two...I'm too busy clingin' to my guns and religion to get off my a** and order my own!" Now that's the number I need!!!!!!!!!!!!! sigpro-fessor 10-31-2008, 16:09 Sunday go-ta-meeting/BBQ gun. :patriot: *Bling http://www.smackshopping.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/04/Bling.jpg Fire_Medic 10-31-2008, 16:52 Here's my contribution. I was tossing the idea around of trying them on the 19, and if good to go get a set for my beloved Commander. I shoot tighter groups with traditional style sights. I'm really missing my ameriglo smooth slope operator's. I'm considering changing them out but don't know yet. I was a big fan at first, but eventually the allure of one dot wears off, and when your groups are not as tight it gets frustrating. They serve their purpose, great for moving targets and fast sight acquisition, but I'm very critical and liked seeing tighter groups like with the other sights. This has just been my experience. My buddy that bought them shoots tight groups with the same big dots on his Glocks.
