Hey,

Just bought a new G19. Put about 150 rounds of Federal 124 gr HST (non +p) through it today. I loved it - no problems at all. Wife is a different story - she seems to get hit in the forehead with the brass on almost every shot! She is in a pretty standard weaver-type stance. Can you guys give me any tips on why this happens with her? I tried all kinds of wacky grips to get it to happen to me (i.e. holding it hith 2 fingers and firing, super limp wristing, and all other innapropriate kinds of grip to try to get it to either jam or hit me with brass - but for me always ejected up and to the right.

PS- I could not get this thing to jam at all - can't say that about my old G27 I sold.

She isn't canting the gun a bit is she? Maybe try a different weight recoil spring. I use 15 lb. ISMI spring in my G19 and it flings the brass up and away very well.

sounds to me like it might be somehow twisting to the left when she pulls the trigger, or possible limpwristing. Even though you tried to recreate it, you may not be able to make it do exactly the same thing.

When I first got my 21 it did the same thing. It's a stance issue and you also need a few more rounds threw the pistol to break in the recoil spring. What's happening is that she's holding the pistol a bit too far too the left. Make sure she centers the pistol relative to her body. Also do make sure she holds the pistol nice and firm. With a few more rounds threw your 19 I bet the issue goes away just like it did with my 21.

Sounds like she's limpwristing.

IN every mag of ten rounds with my 30sf, the third round throws the brass forward of my stance rather then to the back. :dunno:

Ditch the Weaver Stance for now and have her use the triangluar, both arms extended stance, chin down, leaning forward from the waist. If that does not work, then try the 15# spring or American Eagle 147-gr FMJ ammo.

She's not left eye dominant is she? (and shooting right handed)

Make sure she's gripping it as high as possible, as in line with her forearm as possible.

Shooting arm as straight as possible, left foot forward, slightly bent at the knee to put her weight on it.

OK thanks we'll try working on her stance/grip. Thing I don't get is I can hold the gun like a fairy and still get a nice clean ejection?

You don't need a bone crushing grip! It's not a question of grip strength, never has been. It's a question of movement--hand, wrist, arm, elbow, shoulder, torso--while firing a lightweight framed semi-auto pistol that can cause problems. My step-daughter weighs about 110 pounds and can fire her G19 all day long without getting hit with brass. She uses Winchester USA 115-gr FMJ ammo for practice and competition. Her secret is she has a great coach.

Get her a cap.

The eye dominance issue mentioned above is my bet. She's probably subtly tilting the weapon to the left to see through her left eye.

And get her a cap. It's a good piece of safety equipment as well as keeping the sun out of your eyes.

Butch, beat me to it as usual. I am left eye and right handed and it doesn't seem to matter which Glock I shoot the empty case just barely clears my forehead.

Question? When she is shooting is she hitting the target?
