He and his wife adopted a girl from Bangladesh???? Why has this never been made light of? This seems to be right up the medias alley of Angelina Jolie-style compassion and reaching out to poor people in other countries???
i know theres media bias and all that but come on, this type of thing could be played up big time but Ive never even heard of it until the convention LOL

I have read it many times. I do find it kind of strange that I've never seen one of those 'Happy Family' pics.

Isn't that the one his wife brought home as a "suprise"? Without McCain's knowledge or permission?

Without McCain's knowledge, yes. It seems she was pretty certain how he would feel about it, however.

I read this in Newsweek or Time within the last couple weeks. Whichever one it was, had an interesting article about Cindy (2 or 3 pages) and included this tidbit of info in it.

I thought she was a mean spirited multi millionaire.

Seems the McCain family is ripe for a cover on US magazine, without the smear tactics.

Here was the online version of the print article in Time regarding Cindy McCain:
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1837242,00.html
...After a string of miscarriages, the couple went on to have three children, and the experience of becoming a mother, Cindy says, propelled her deeper into her relief work. In 1991, when she was touring Mother Teresa's orphanage in Dhaka, Bangladesh, she met an infant with a cleft palate so severe, the nuns weren't able to feed her properly, and they feared she couldn't be saved. Cindy decided to take the baby home with her to get treatment and concluded during the long flight that the child would be joining their family. She informed her husband only when she landed.... (emphasis mine)

That's pretty mainstream to me. And, the entire article is a good read if you are interested in learning some more about her.

Yeah -- her hob-nobbing around the world to care for Bangladesh orphans with Mother Teresa, checking on the victims of warfare in Georgia, sending/accompanying medical teams to Africa, etc., are all just a cover-up for the utter capitalistic darkness in her soul...

Sure but even to a casual observer such as myself, I cant help but to think that if Obama adopted a foreign child (even years ago) it would be plastered all over the media with no end to show his "compassion and giving and etc" since hes running for potus.

If it were Barf Obama the media would be all over it. But since it's McCain it's not spotlighted much.

I'd imagine being the primary focus of an issue of Time magazine in the months leading up to the election wouldn't be insignificant when it comes to the dissemination of that information along with the online distribution.

It could also be, that they are a little gun-shy about the matter after getting smeared (http://www.thenation.com/doc/20080128/banks)by Rove in the 2000 election about it.

Wait a minute. Didn't Barry give his brother George a job? From what I read, George is now the Chief Community Organizer in Kenya.

The media like to paint Cindy McCain as a rich snob. She is rich but she's used her influence and wealth to help the people of poor countries. That's how she came across this little girl and decided to adopt her.

Even throwing a little cash to his extensive family in Africa would have been a nice touch. Maybe he is still trying to figure out a way for the American taxpayers to foot the bill, for his charity.

I believe she is attending school. I could be wrong. Their son serving in Iraq could not attend either.

Yeah, what's with her anyway. She is supposed to be just another one of those vain, white, shallow, rich republican debutants who let their husbands take care of them.

No Bridgit was there last night. She's not quite an adult, she was born in '91 I believe. All seven of the kids were there last night. All seven are not Cindy's.

All of the McCain kids were introduced at the convention. Bridget and her sisters was there the entire week. Marine L/Cpl Jimmy McCain who served in and is now back from Iraq was there last night as was his Navel Academy brother.

I saw Bridgit get on McCain's bus yesterday (she was dressed in a purple skirt and pink top as I recall, or vice versa), so she's definitely there.

So to sum everything up: McCain and wife have seven kids, some of whom are adopted, and two of whom serve their country in a military capacity. Palin and husband have five kids, one of whom has Down's Syndrome, and another of whom is 17 years old and pregnant, that the family is supporting. Yet when the election is in full swing they're all but certain to be portrayed at hating children because of their respective positions on welfare, where the liberal will be played up as morally superior. They will also be portrayed as uncaring warmongers, because "the kids of the powerful never have to go to war."

Gah. I hate election years--they make my head hurt!

Zak -- Good summation... :) You just left out the part about the Palins' oldest child (Track) being deployed to Iraq soon.

Yes... conservatives are not supposed to have hearts according to the Democratic party line. So nothing can be said or shown to disprove that.

+1 So true! It doesn't fit this ridiculous narrative that is foisted upon the country by biased news networks.

Only the Dems have compassion and have the ability to care for all the downtrodden. What a load!

As it turns out, most of the policies that the Dems seem to push regarding social spending and entitlements are probably some of the biggest reasons why many people are in need, and will continue to be in need in our country.

Cindy McCain was doing great deeds years ago quietly and without fanfare. It is not some new re-invention of herself to garner sympathy and votes for her husband.

I respect people who do the right thing when the cameras are not on them. Real charity and compassion doesn't need film crews to record what comes naturally from the heart.
