Is there any place out there that I can buy a barrel for a Ruger Vaquero? FWIW, I'm talking the about the beefed up Vaqueros produced up until just fairly recently when Ruger once again changed the design.

The reason I ask is that my dad has a 7.5" stainless Vaquero that spends 99% of its time sitting in his safe. I've been playing with the idea of rebarreling it with a 5.5" barrel and using it as a trail gun. Not that I really need another trail gun, but you guys know what I mean. :supergrin:

Ruger doesn't seem to be keen on selling replacement barrels for their revolvers. Numrich and Brownells don't stock them.
You might keep your eyes peeled on Gunsamerica or one of the other gun auction sites for one, or check with Bowen or any of the other revolver smiths that specialize in Ruger SA revolvers, as they should likely have extras and take-offs they might do for you.
Or, the most cost effective option;

Sell it and buy the one you want.

Oh..okay I read that the front site is 'homesmithed'.:supergrin:

I'd send the gun to a gunsmith like Cylinder and Slide or a good local gunsmith that does good work, and have them swap in the right barrel. You may have a wait, as finding Ruger barrels for the wheelguns you require the 'Smith to hunt one down. Have him check the chamber throats too.

I've only put one box of cowboy ammo through mine if you want to buy the gun.

Its not that bad and like I said, it shoots well. Its just that I've never cared for the 7.5" barrel. Its a bit long for carry.

Cobra64, thanks for the offer. I'll keep you in mind if I decide to go that route.

I agree with the long barrel. It's really nose heavy. Here's my Blackhawk that I bought new, right out of college, in 1972.

I forgot to menttion that my Vaquero is a Bisley that Ruger made for limited production. Notice the shape of the trigger compared to my Blackhawk.
