Anybody here own one, shoot one, or carry one for defense? I am not looking for the .45/9mm war but experiences with either gun would be nice to hear about...

But the living with a pos is a reminder forever of a bad deal.

Get a .45 Glock and you will bless the day I told you.

I've mollested both, and I just couldn't bring myself to buy one.... The closest way to describe the feel, would be ... they 'feel' just like a Llama in terms of quality. Crisp edges... not sharp mind you, but crisp edges on all the metal, slop in the slide, very stiff action.... just not what I want in a firearm...

Of the two, the 9mm was the best.

Check out a Steyr if you want an absolute fantastic weapon at just over $300 from CDNN.... The Steyr M-A1 series is on par with Sig and HK. I recomend the .40 ... mine has been fantastic.

I thought the Bersa line had a solid reputation?!? A experienced gunsmith at a certain "Gunshoppe" on Manchester Rd. in Akron, Ohio sings praises about the compact .45 Bersa...another guy I know carries the Bersa 9mm compact-both the 9mm and the .45 models seemed tight and well made IMO

I have a bersa thunder 9 compact. It is a well built gun, and well worth buying in the $300 to $350 range. I have had no problems with mine, however magazines are expensive.

i was talking to "graycrait" the other day and he was bragging about the line. he seems like a knowledgable guy on quite a few hes tinkered with.

I can't speak from personal experience, not having owned either, but I've heard little negative about either. My impression is Bersa makes good quality weapons at reasonable prices. Watch here for more opinions from owners before deciding.

I owned a Mini 40 for about a year. Hundreds of rounds downrange with NO issues. Accuracy good.

Downside was weight, solid steel and quite heavy. Very few holsters. Expensive mags.

If you just want an inexpensive gun to have fun at the range, and punch holes in paper, I would highly recommend it.

For carry you can't beat a GLOCK for reliability, size options, weight, holster options, lights, lazers, etc...

Does the Nickle finish hold up on the Bersa line? I have heard that the nickle tends to peel around the muzzle some...JM

I have two Bersa Thunder 9mms and a Firestorm Mini 9 (made by Bersa). All three have been 100% reliable. I shot 1K through my Bersa Thunder 9 Fullsize with no cleaning or lube and had no problems. My daily carry is my Bersa Thunder 9 Ultracompact.
Bersas are great pistols at a great price. Highly recommended.

The only one I have practical experience with is the Thunder 380... We bought my mom one for Christmas a few years ago... It's solid and performs... My post about the 9mm and .45, are only of the one's I mollested, (It's possible the .45 was a bad one. Slide slop/or wiggle.), and is only about the cosmetic 'feel' of the weapon..... It isn't pollished like a Sig or Beretta. They might have been great shooters, I just don't know.

My T9UC is an awesome gun!!!

I think it's a bit too latge for CCW, FOR ME, but I am sure it would be comfortable for persons with a larger build.

It is 100% reliable though and I love it!!!

Compared with my Glock 27:

My dad has the T45UC and it rocks as well....but still too large for CCW, IMHO.

Is there a difference between Bersa and Firestorm as far as quality goes?

No difference between firestorm and bersa except the trigger guard. The firestorm trigger guard is rounded, while the bersa one is shaped more like a glock with the finger rest part on the front

Same company.

Some Firestorm guns can't be shipped East - they are only sold in the Western part of the country:dunno: Dumb, I know, but that's how it is. You can still find them East, but Bersa is easier to get!

Either will function flawlessly though!!!

So, Bersa/Firestorm is like Taurus/Rossi then? Cool...
