i got one of the newer ones. i had to figure out what ammo it liked, CCI blazer, lot of misfeeds with winchester and federal ammo. i been shooting 100 or 150 rounds a nite in mine all summer, couple of misfeeds, nothing major. it's never been cleaned.

Two bricks through a new 22/45 Mk III with no problems. The bull barrel really steadies the sight picture.

If you had a choice, would you take the bull barrel or the full length and why?

A longer barrel = longer sight radius, and a longer sight radius will help with accuracy if you are using the iron sights. If you are going to mount some kind of scope, then a longer barrel won't make much of a difference as far as accuracy, but a shorter barrel is a bit more handy if you are going to carry it holstered.

Our MkIII Hunter is not picky about ammo at all, and is both accurate and reliable with just about everything we've run through it. It's trigger isn't as good as our Buckmark, but the Ruger has a bank vault feel too it, which no other inexpensive .22 auto can match.

Three other good plinkers are the S&W 22A, the Beretta Neos, and the Browing BuckMark. If your GF's hands are small, you might find a better fit with the BM or the Neos. All four have their pro's and con's, but as mentioned you won't go wrong w/a Ruger, or any of the other three for that matter....
