No personal experience with NcStar. Check CDNN for a wide variety of those scopes and you can compare prices.

They are lower end Chinese crap, for another $20 you could step up to mid-grad Chinese crap.

I did a search on the Interweb for you....

I have no idea if this is true, but I saw one post saying NcStar is what used to be Tasco... most of the reviews I found were on Airsoft/air rifle sites, and most of them were ho-hum reviews...

I'm not sure if I'd trust one on your .308.

I got an NcStar red dot on my Ruger Charger. It shows a red dot and it seems to stay zero OK. Not something that I'd trust my life to, but for just a few bucks worth of fun, it's hard to beat.

I have a NCstar 10-40X50 on my 30-06 and it stays at zero, and works great.

First post here of what I hope to be many. :wavey:

I have an NCstar 6x42 tactical on my ruger 10/22 bullpup and it stays at zero no problem. I just ordered a NCstar 3-9x42 tactical to put on my SAR-1 for some fun.

The build quality seems to be pretty decent and for the price you really can't go wrong.

Here's my tip. Put a very few more dollars with it and get a Mueller scope. Not very well known brand--yet--but REALLY good scopes for REALLY good prices.

Here's a link to their website: http://www.muelleroptics.com/

And here's a link to where to actually buy one for even cheaper than MSRP: http://www.mizzoumuleguns.com/index.html

The Owner, Dennis, is a great guy and he ships VERY fast.

Hope that's helpful.

Cheap POS optics are never a good investment. There is absolutely no way you can get decent glass for that price, its simply not possible. For the type of scope you are looking at, you are going to have to spend several hundred dollars at minimum to get decent glass. Yes, its a lot of money, and yes, it sucks, but thats the way it is.

Why would I want to put a 500-dollars scope on a 200-dollars gun?

I wouldnt necessarily put a $500 piece of glass on a $200 gun, but I would spend considerably more than an NcStar or BSA costs. You can get reasonably decent glass for around $200-250, especially for a rimfire.

Often times, the glass will cost more than the gun, sometimes considerably so. Life is too short for cheap glass.

I like mine. It has a light up recticle for that night time shooting. Varies from really low (I prefer 1 or 2) to a blazing 11. The target says "Whoa! I didn't see THAT one coming!" Works a lot better than a laser even if you put the cross right in the middle of its eye.

I got a something-star at a gun show (blue box gold lettering) and put it on my AR for coyote hunting. unless you are going to shoot during mid day i wouldn't reccomend it. we scared some does oout of hiding when we started calling and the scope was way too dark to see out of in the early morning light. I got a Nikon Buckmaster for $210 and it is great. Nice and bright! I wouldn't waste my money on another one like the star I got at the gunshow!

Spend a few $ more and get a better scope. You will not regret it in the long run. Nikon, Burris, Leupold or even Bushnell are better choices.

I have one... DON'T DO IT!!!

I have a 3-9x40 with an illuminated reticle... at full zoom, the outer edges "fish-eye". It doesn't gather light as well as my Tasco Silver Antler either (and that's saying something).

NCStar = junk.

If you want to try it out, I'll sell it to you for half price if you promise not to hate me.

+1

Yes, a $200 scope on a $200 makes sense... when you sell the rifle, you keep the scope.

I couldn't keep any of my bushnells (had 3) they were 3-9x30 and one 40 I would shoot then next time at the range they were of again. my NcStar stays zero on my 30-06 fine and works great. I think overall they are what you pay for, and decent for they price.

Also here is the one I have Made for a .50 cal, but I put it on a .30-06. Its a 10-40x50 w/ lighted range finding recticle.

I have one of the EER fixed power NCStar's and would not buy another one. Spend a little more and get something better.

I have 2.5 X LER scope on Mosin Nagantan and so far it holds zero after about 200 rounds or so.
Got it from CDNN a few years ago for $20 something.

Pick up a Nikon ProStaff for $125 from midway or your local walmart.

I have one and it has the best glass of any of my sub $500 dollar scopes.

I got a $40 Tasco 4X mounted on my $120 Remington Viper for fifteen years and thousands of rounds through it. Still works fine. I suppose I could have mounted a $300 Leupold on my Viper too...

I have found Sun Clear, or SC Vector, 1.25-4.5 X 30, to be a decent inexpensive scope.... I've got one on my M17s, that I used to have on my Beretta CX4 and another rifle... It holds zero, is fog proof, nitrogen filled, tool-less adjustment, etc/etc.... The site I bought it from says it was a surplus miltary contract scope... I don't know if that's true or not, but the thing rocks...
