View Full Version : Finally took my Sig P229 to the range
I bought the damn thing about three months ago. The wonderful "one handgun per 30 days" law here prevented me from taking it home until June 28th, the day before a three-week trip to Wisconsin (visiting my parents). Well, now that I am back in California, I was finally able to take my Sig P229 (.357 Sig) to the range. What a nice pistol! I have been having problems getting my Sig P239 to shoot well (my problem, not the gun's). My P229, however, shoots well with little effort on my part. I am glad that I bought it.

If I had to sell all but one of my guns my 229 is the one to keep... its an excellent gun... especially with a .357 SiG barrel... you might want to try a sprinco recoil reducer.... tames it to a 9mm... there is one for sale at sigforum.com
check it out!

check it out!I tried a recoil reducer (other brand: Harrts) on my Sig P239 (also .357 Sig) once, and wasn't impressed. .357 Sig doesn't bother me, so I don't feel the need to tame the recoil.

Ken,
Did you ever consider the SigPro version? I'm tempted to sell my 226-9 and get the 2340. I'm interested in the DAO aspect. People say the DA is short and smooth but all of this is relative to what one considers short and smooth. To me, short and smooth is a Kimber.

Glad you've found another good one!
Lunde, I love mine. I'd only get rid of it for a Kimber Gold Match or something like that. Like you, I simply raise the pistol, find the front sight and fire...bingo, in the 10. It's one nice shoot'n pistol. I have configured for 357 Sig and the 40.

steeleye,
I have a personally owned 229 in .357 and a dept issued 2340 in .357. Sig is known to most for the long, deliberate DA stroke. If I were you, I would NOT sell a "classic line" Sig just to buy a SigPro. To me, the classics are better. They are "classics" for a reason.
If I read your post right, your Sig is a DA/SA. If you want to go DA only, convert your existing gun. It is a fairly simple process for a gunsmith to do. That way, you don't have to break in a new gun, buy new holsters, etc.
Keep your current gun and convert it to DA only if you wish.
